I am single, work full time, teach in my spare time, love to read (or listen to books), listen to music, garden and spend any time I can out of doors. Oh, this is about cooking! Well, I cook when I have the time, and usually do "batch" type cooking to prepare food to freeze for lunch or dinner the days I work. I like to try new recipes, am not averse to a "TV Dinner" when caught off guard, occasionally eat out (Mexican or Oriental are favorites)and like to cook with my Grandchildren when they are around. I do have "old favorites" or "comfort food" from my childhood that Grandma or my mother in law taught me to make and that my children still ask to have made when they are home.
My favorite things to cook
Simple but attractive meals laden with vegetables. Soups and chili are my all time favorites to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making stuffed cabbage for special occasions -they were a Sunday/Holiday staple as a child. "German pancakes" as my children call them for any meal or a good hearty "cottage cheese" pancake with fruit will work as well. We do have some stir fry dishes that are a must when we're together. No special traditions for any holidays.
My cooking triumphs
New York style cheesecake from an old family favorite recipe.
Stuffed cabbage
Chili
My cooking tragedies
When I get distracted and turn the heat up to get something going and don't turn it down. Still happens at times!
