I'm a 19 year old college sophomore pursuing a degree in Food Business Management. My parents love it when I get a break to go home because they miss my cooking (although I'm not home much). I try to make most of my meals in my apartment because it is cheaper than the cafeteria or take out. I love trying new recipes and cooking methods!
My favorite things to cook
I am inspired by recipes from countries that I have visited! I always get a cook book as a souvenir on my trips. I also like to recreate foods that I ate while traveling to "take me back" to that country.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family raises our own meat including beef, pork, chicken, and turkey so we always have a variety of main dishes. It's exciting to go to the freezer at the beginning of the week and plan my menu! Each break when I go home I stock up on freezer meat.
My cooking triumphs
I entered a cooking contest this year and won first place with my southwest soup!
My cooking tragedies
When I moved into my dorm my first year of college I had many cooking blunders. My room did have a mini fridge (no freezer) and a small oven and stove so I was able to cook. But in my one-room dorm room the fire alarm was very sensitive! Even steam from boiling water could set the thing off!! The worst part was if you didn't ventilate quick enough the entire dorm would sound the fire alarm. It was very embarrassing, but people began to learn that I could cook and I fed many hungry college kids! Thankfully I live in an apartment now with a full size kitchen.
