I am a teacher and a mom of two boys. I have always loved to bake. I am always looking for opportunities to try new recipes!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake desserts, especially cookies and cakes. I love cooking for my boys, who tell me that I am the best cook! That makes it all worth-while!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking day is Thanksgiving. I love helping my mom prepare the dinner and especially love when we are cooking for a big crowd. I like all the traditional favorites, but I also like to try a new recipe each year!
My cooking triumphs
I mastered the art of making cream puffs (including a blancmange filling) at 13. I also won my first blue ribbon for cakes that year. I am also very proud of my Allrecipes submissions!
My cooking tragedies
I simply cannot make those cupcakes in ice cream cones. I have tried it twice - this last time for my youngest's 6th birthday and both times I have had to throw out the results!

Cookie-Crusted Peach Cobbler
Here are some tips for this cobbler recipe. If you want to reduce the fat, you can reduce the butter to 1/4 cup and the oil to 1/2 cup without compromising the flavor. This is a crust-heavy recipe. If you want more emphasis on the peaches, just make half the topping ingredients or make two pans of peaches and divide one crust recipe over them. You can also add flavors to the crust (like vanilla or almond extract) or a splash of flavor to the peaches (like amaretto). You can change the cinnamon to nutmeg or a combination of spices if you like, or sprinkle the top with chopped nuts before baking.

Hot Cross Buns I
I wanted to make hot cross buns for Easter, but I am not a fan of the traditional currants and spices. I enjoyed this recipe and made the following changes to suit my tastes: (they came out very good and I got compliments on them at a pre-Easter party) I substituted 3/4 cups dried blueberries for the currants and 1 tsp lemon zest for the cinnamon. For the glaze, I added a drop or two of lemon extract to the other ingredients. These changes made the buns have a nice spring flavor - if you are willing to break with the traditional.

Evelyn's Cornflake Cookies
A friend's mom had made these cookies years ago and I really liked them. Although there are amny variations of this recipe, I like this one the best. I am a fan of the almond flavor and the cream cheese. Plus these look very pretty for the holidays.
