I am a mom of four kids, two of whom are picky eaters, and have been married to my husband, who is not a picky eater, since 1995. I work full-time in a job I love, which requires that I supervise a dining services manager. I love to cook for people who love to eat. I like to experiment.

Turnip Casserole
I had never eaten a turnip and was looking for a new vegetable for the family to try. Two out of four kids, plus my husband and I all gave this recipe a thumbs up. That's a pretty good rating for any vegetable in my house. I may use a little less sugar next time because I tasted a cube of the turnip plain out of curiosity and it was already kind of sweet. My daughter said the taste reminded her of sweet carrots. I'll probably make this again.

Baked Potato Soup
I tripled this recipe for a big group and it was great. I was expecting it to be a little creamier, but once I got over that surprise, I was very pleased. We served it with sour cream, cheese, and bacon pieces for garnish.

Steff's Shepherd Pie
I've made Shepherd's Pie before (without a recipe - just trying to replicate someone else), but this was the best. I realized after I'd decided to make it that I didn't have cream of mushroom so I used cream of chicken. And I also realized I was out of green beans, so I used corn. I also added a few diced peppers to the hamburger meat while browning it. I diced the peppers and onions very tiny so that my kids wouldn't see them. I will definitely make it again, and I will try it with the green beans next time. Awesome family-friendly recipe.
