About this Cook
I am a middle-aged woman trying to broaden my cooking knowledge. I am learning to try new things and not be so afraid to cook with new ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my family enjoys, especially soups and stews. I enjoy cooking mexican or italian dishes the most. I also have recently enjoyed trying to bake different breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Now that my kids are older I don't care so much what I cook, but I enjoy the fact that my kids like cooking with me. My husband and I just renovated our kitchen and I love the fact that we can all cook together now that I have a huge island. That makes me happiest, when we're all together taking part in a meal and spending quality time together. We do have our traditions: the same Easter morning egg casserole, and the same twice baked potatoes to go along with our traditional fish dinner on X-mas eve. My kids still really look forward to our holiday cooking traditions even though they're in their twenties.
My cooking triumphs
I have had many triumphs in the kitchens. I am always thrilled when my family or friends like something I have cooked or baked. But I especially like the fact that over the years I have learned to "tweek" recipes to my liking. When I was younger I was too afraid to do that. I always feel the most triumphant in the kitchen when I "invent" a recipe in my head and it comes out great. Then I have a hard time getting it down a paper to make it again!
My cooking tragedies
Way too many to list!

Golden Sweet Cornbread
Never made corn bread before, but always loved it. This recipe is easy and delicious. Will definitely make this for Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Spice Bread
This was the best pumpkin bread I have tasted in a long long time. My sisters went nuts, and that means something to me because they are awesome bakers. I did alter the recipe slightly to my liking. I don't like cloves or allspice so I added a 1/2 teaspoon more of the cinnamon and nutmeg. I also added 1 cup of chopped walnuts. It was extremely moist and the nuts added a wonderful texture to the bread. Was a big hit and would definitely make this again.
