That's me! 'Tis I!
About this Cook
I'm a teacher in rural Manitoba. I learned to cook from my mom and by trying new recipes. As far as new foods goes, I'll try anything except for raw meat. I'm sure it's a delicacy...maybe I'm not delicate enough?
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, so cookies, cakes, pies, buns, bread...and shrimp. Shrimp is the easiest and yummiest ever. I also make a lot of soups and chilis for frozen lunches.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big English roast beef dinner (yorkshire pudding, roasted veggies, etc.) and my mom's creation: unbaked cream-cheese cake mixture piped into chocolate bowls and smothered in fruit. That's a Christmas-only thing! As are candies made from my mom's 1950s textbooks. My mom also serves shrimp before big meals.
My cooking triumphs
Hmmm...my volcano cakes aren't too bad. And watching bread rise is always a triumph. I've made 2 charlottes - an awful amount of work, but so pretty and tasty!
My cooking tragedies
Well, there was the time I used 1 tbsp of salt instead of 1 tsp in a cake...no matter how many times I doubled the recipe, it was still inedible. The first time I made buns, I had no clue how yeast works, and created wonderfully solid hockey pucks. German chocolate cake coconut topping that I didn't cook long enough...runny! I'm not good at meat; things like steak, pork, even ground beef elude me. I guess I need more practice. And corn-on-the-cob, which is supposed to be simple, always defeats me.

Strawberry and Feta Salad
Simple to prepare, and absolutely delicious! I almost never make salads because I can't finish the lettuce before it wilts and becomes unappetizing, but this recipe is worth it!

Quick Italian Vegetable Soup
I make this one for frozen lunches. The parmesan adds the extra tasty surprise. This soup is easy to make, especially with a mandoline. It reheats perfectly!

Raspberry Truffle Fudge
VERY popular at work and with my boyfriend. I'm hoping to try it with other liqueurs...amaretto and grand marnier come to mind. The big plus is how easy this is to make. Love it!
