My favorite things to cook
Passions change. Lately it's been sweets, but I have to also say it's been old family favorites as my clock is ticking and I want to make sure my sons know how to keep the family's best recipes alive. Some of the family recipes are new, some are old. Some of them I've never tried before, but I am the keeper of my maternal grandma's recipe box collection and remember what many of the recipes taste like, so I've tried to select the things I remember and liked best.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Biddocks
Chocolate Eclairs, Cream Puffs
Apple Turnovers
Ham Loaf (nothing like a meatloaf)
Thumbprints (cookie)
Deviled Eggs
German Chocolate Cake with Broiled Frosting
My cooking triumphs
All three sons are becoming competent cooks and that includes good shoppers.
My cooking tragedies
My first two batches of eclairs. Mom gave me the recipe from memory, but doubled the butter. Hard lumps of overcooked dough, sitting on the baking sheet frying in a layer of butter. Thought I may have made a measuring error, so made a second batch of hard sizzling brown things.
