My Two Biggest Fans
About this Cook
I work full-time in the office of of deli products distributor, and I come home each day to a hungry EMT/Firefighter husband and dog. I pride myself on being able to cook tasty (sometimes even gourmet) food for cheap, and am a real bargain shopper. So far, I'd say I am doing pretty well.
My favorite things to cook
Anything easy and healthy that also tastes great: Vegan Refried Beans & Homemade Tortillas, Spaghetti Sauce, Low Fat Broccoli Casserole, Banana Spice Bread, anything involving lower-fat and lower-sodium deli products (that I get for cheeeeeep!) :) Yum Yum!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from Lithuanians and French-Canadians and I have to say my favorite "ethnic" dishes are Cabbage Rolls, POUTINE (SO not good for you), Pickles and Pickled Beets, Borscht, Sugar Pie (see Poutine), Dilled Potatoes, and Kugelis (potato-y pudding). I am no longer really a potato person since my Lithuanian nana passed away, I think she weaved magic into hers.
My cooking triumphs
Making an entire EXCELLENT Mexican dinner for my husband and I, from scratch, for less than 75 cents per serving. Also, homemade Pumpkin Bars and Brownies are nice.
My cooking tragedies
I fail at making frosting. It either turns out rock-like or super runny.
