About this Cook
I have a baby sister who is 16 years my junior my only sibling. I by chance moved to Knoxville TN when I got married. She eventually went to Univ of TN in Knoxville. I was where she was in college. I cooked big Sunday dinners for all the college kids from our part of the state (Knoxville is on the complete opposite end of where we grew up). Knoxville and Newbern are completely different in every way from every angle: the political views, terrain and customs. Newbern is located in what is called the MIDSOUTH region of the country. we are smack dab in the middle of the South. It is said that the Delta starts in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel. Well anyway the Kids called me Mamma Devon and would come over and eat southern comfort foods on Sunday night. It was a good way to show love to homesick kids from my area. It is said no one knows a stranger where I am from and that is true and we always have a smile and a hot plate of food for you!
My favorite things to cook
appetizers especially vidalia onion dip, or braising meat in the oven I love to cook pork I am really southern!!! anything southern, turnip greens and roots, fried chicken, deviled eggs
My favorite family cooking traditions
having cheese grits and country ham from VA on Christmas morning. Also my Daddy makes egg on toast a recipe that has been passed down in my paternal side of the family for generations. When someone makes you egg on toast you feel loved!!!!!!!
My cooking triumphs
