Married for 30+ years to a wonderful man. We have two grown sons and a wonderful daughter-in-law. We live in the same town my husband and I grew up in and raised both our sons in.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - and if it's chocolate, that's even better. My family has always been very appreciative of anything I cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom and I have been making homemade candy around Christmas time for about the past 20 years. Our most requested treats are Martha Washington candy and chocolate fudge - although the peanut butter fudge usually doesn't last long either.
My cooking triumphs
Anything I bake or cook which gets eaten, I consider a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
It was our first Thanksgiving in our new house and we were hosting my extended family. I have eight siblings so it was quite a crowd.
I was in charge of baking the ham and potatoes. I thought it was going pretty well until I took the ham out of the oven to prove to my older sister that I could be trusted with one of the main dishes.
When she finally quit laughing long enough, she explained to me that the plastic mesh was supposed to be taken off the ham before it was cooked.
Well, I never!
It actually turned out fine as I'm sure the plastic mesh people fully expected it was inevitable that someone would think "What a pretty pattern that will make on my holiday ham." At least it didn't melt.
My sister has never let me forget it.
