My favorite things to cook
Soups and casseroles, pies and cookies and traditional southern country cooking such as meatloaf and mashed potatoes, southern fried corn and cornbread with a Mexican flair.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Comfort foods such as roast turkey and family recipes passed down from 2 previous generations which include recipes for New England Boiled Custard and Jam Cake (both dishes served in our home on Thanksgiving and Christmas every year).
My cooking triumphs
In the baking category, I won second place in a baking contest for my Rugelach but I was told by several people in attendance that I should have gotten first place.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I roasted a turkey I didn't know that the neck and giblets were in the turkey cavity and prepared the bird with them still inside. My husband was so impressed when he saw the gorgeous golden color of the turkey but we were both surprised by what we found inside! I have never lived it down!
Another cooking disaster for me is every attempt I have made to make Chicken and Dumplings has turned into a complete waste of time and ingredients. Each time, the result has been inedible. This is one challenge I hope to live long enough to conquer..
