About this Cook
I recently graduated from college. I have not had luck in the job department since I recently moved to a new state and have absolutely no connections here. To fill my time during the day, besides applying for jobs, I have found my love for cooking and baking all over again. I am always browsing for new recipes to try and tips for some of my favorite recipes. I found this site, especially all the reviews, so helpful that I decided to join.
My favorite things to cook
I am not sure. I love making foods that make the people around me happy. I like experimenting with vegetables and fresh herbs.
My cooking triumphs
I actually had one today. I found a recipe for a homemade yellow cake. I usually bake with my mother and do not really do it solo. She is working and I promised her I would make a cake for her to take into work tomorrow. I am not a fan of preservatives and chemicals that are put into processed foods. Therefore, I decided to make a cake from scratch. I had a little sample and I am quite proud of it. We will see what her co-workers think tomorrow.
My cooking tragedies
I have been cooking and baking since I was a little girl. When I was the age of 12, my mom started allowing me to cook whenever I wanted, supervision or not. It was a snow day from school and my best friend was over at my house. We decided to make some mac and cheese, cookies, and cheese dip. Lets just say, it was too much for two 12 year old, gabby girls, to take on at one time. I turned the wrong burner on to boil water (this burner had a stack of pots on it). After about 40 mins with no water boiling, I realized what I had done. I quickly took the pots off the hot burner and put them onto a oven mitt. Lets just say, I almost caught my house on fire that day. Lesson learned, and to this day I do not think I could cook safely with that friend.

Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds
I love making this recipe. Great snack to have on hand. I follow the recipe for the most part. Except, I add about a teaspoon of vanilla for extra flavor. I also use half white sugar and half brown sugar!

David's Yellow Cake
Very good, rave reviews from my family. This was my first attempt in making a yellow cake from scratch. I read the reviews and made a few variations to the recipe, but it turned out great. I used four yolks and two whole eggs. I also added in half a box of instant pudding mix. Everything else was the same. I did the toothpick test to know when to take it out. Turned out great.
