About this Cook
I am 31, and I have been married for almost 9 years. I have 3 little boys and 4 stepchildren. I love to use recipes, but often use boxed or bagged mixes and add things to change them.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking cookies, and making decorated cakes - although lately, I haven't had much time for the cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year at Thanksgiving I always make a bunch of pies - pumpkin, apple, pecan, sweet potato, chocolate cream, and custard. There has never been a year where we didn't have pie.
My cooking triumphs
It took me several years and many recipes to master homemade biscuits, but I mastered homemade peppermint candy on the first try. I grew up on that candy, and I am glad that I finally figured out how to make it on my on.
My cooking tragedies
I have many kids, and they all have different tastes. It is really hard to find one thing to make for dinner that everyone can agree on, so I usually have to make two or three different things for dinner every night. Especially since one is a vegetarian, and a picky eater! This makes for a varied grocery list, and a few tantrums at times - but I finally got the hang of it. Sometimes it slips my mind, and I have to make last minute changes. It almost always works out in the end.

Sweet Potato Puffs
After 5 minutes the marshmallows still melted some, but they were a big hit with all 7 of my kids! I will definitely make this again.

Bat Wings
I tried this recipe, and changed a few things because I had no soy sauce. I added teriyaki instead, put in pepper and onion powder, but then only dipped it in the sauce before cooking it. My family loves BBQ, so after they were done I BBQ's them on broil in the oven. Even without the BBQ sauce, they were great! I tried one without the BBQ sauce, and it was wonderful. I would definitely make this again.
