About this Cook
I am the busy mother of six children ages 13 to 3. I have always enjoyed cooking and as my family has grown, so has my time in the kitchen! I am always looking for great recipes that feed a crowd. My husband is easy to please and loves healthy recipes. Healthy cooking makes us all feel better and increases our productivity.
My favorite things to cook
I like breakfast and supper recipes the best. Crock pot recipes-especially in the fall and winter are wonderful. Admittedly, I'm not a very good baker, but would love to improve on that. My oldest daughter is better at baking bread than I am. We have a saying at our house, "Mom isn't very good with dough!" I handle it too much and my breads turn out too tough, unless I use the breadmaker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family eats supper together every evening, but I think our favorite tradition has been our Saturday morning pancake tradition. I don't think we've missed this more than five times in my fifteen years of marriage! We have grown to love wholewheat pancakes and sometimes add special touches like apples, blueberries, pumpkin, or pecans. Yum!
My cooking triumphs
Two things that our family loves about our traditions are: 1. We have a family cookbook that is just a three-ring binder with our recipes in page protectors. When I make something new and we all really like it, the kids will say that this recipe needs to go into our cookbook. I use the computer to type and save the recipe into the and print it out for the cookbook. This cookbook will go to each child when he or she marries. This way we will be able to keep our family's recipes preserved. 2. We started a tradition of trying to eat dessert only once a week-on Sundays. I let each child take turns planning and making this dessert each week. We have kept it up for four years now. The family favorite dessert is Chocolate Pudding Cake AKA "Crazy Cake". It's the old recipe where the cake bakes with a rich pudding layer underneath it. It's an old recipe I hear! Anyway, each child enjoys when it is his or her turn to make our dessert. Sometimes it's very simple and sometimes it is
My cooking tragedies
As newlyweds, I wanted to impress my husband's friends who were coming to supper by grilling shish kabobs using my mother's recipe. Half-way into cooking them, the grill ran out of gas! I was mortifyed, but microwaving them turned out to be O.K. Everyone said they tasted fine, but of course, I was disappointed in the meal! Another time when I was in college, I wanted to make rice krispy treats for a Bible study that was meeting at my house. I hadn't ever made them before and didn't measure carefully enough. They came out so hard, we couldn't even cut them with a knife! I was so disappointed, but everyone understood! I tell this story repeatedly-ha! It's hard to believe that ANYONE couldn't get such an easy recipe to turn out!

Scones
When it says to cut in the butter, microwave it for 20 seconds, then cut it into little squares. It will make it a LOT easier when you add it to the flour mixture. I thought it was still too moist when it was time to roll it out, so I added about one more cup of flour to it, and it worked fine. Before it went into the oven I spread butter and cinnamon plentifully and that was AWESOME!! This recipe is just great, and is really good with jame and whipped cream on top when it's hot from the oven!

Pumpkin Cookies V
These cookies are great! WOW! They taste more like cake than cookies! ;) When you are forming them, you need to really help them take shape, because I found that they DO NOT SPREAD OUT IN THE OVEN. Very good, and just the right amount of pumpkin. I also add a bit more cinnamon, and some allspice as well. I HIGHLY recommend this recipe!! :D

Pumpkin Pancakes
These pancakes are very good. The syrup is what really makes the difference.
