I'm an American woman married to a man from Oaxaca, Mexico. We met in US but later moved to Baja California, where we had 3 children. A son 17, daughter almost 15, son 13. I lived there for 10 years and feel like it is as much my home as the US is. I now live in Seattle, Wa. and own and run a Oaxaca Restraunt with my wonderful husband of 22 years.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making just about everything. My favorite is making a meal for my Husband and Children for any special occassion or even just a really good meal for them that I know they will enjoy. Seeing their smiles and telling me how much they liked the meal, is by far one of my most favorite things not only to cook but in general.
My favorite family cooking traditions
All Holidays. Mexican and American. My daughter and I spend days before any holiday cooking together and talking, laughing, tasting. We have done this since she was big enough to help (4 yrs old) and now is almost 15. We have made many special memories and look forward to many, many more.
My cooking triumphs
When I self taught and mastered Mole Negro and Flour Tortillas and was told I made it the same if not better then the women from Oaxaca.
My cooking tragedies
My Husband thinking he could teach me how to make Mole Negro, never making it himself before only seeing his Mother . He added the chicken broth while still very hot to the other ingredients in the blender, putting on the lid, turning it on high, and the lid blew off! Covering both of us, the entire kitchen, even the ceiling with mole.
