About this Cook
I'm just starting to cook more complicated recipes. I have found that I can blow way too much money at Whole Foods.
My favorite things to cook
I love using fresh spices! I also love cooking things with jasmine rice. Get a rice cooker people!! My husband is Filipino and taught me to use his. No one should be without one.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is big with my family. I never am the one to cook though. This year I plan to bring a dish to "WOW" them.
My cooking triumphs
I found that my favorite restaurant had published it's recipe for shrimp and grits. I made it and it tasted EXACTLY the same. I knew then that I loved cooking. REAL cooking.
My cooking tragedies
Once made pineapple upside down cornbread. I bought buttermilk cornbread mix instead of cake mix or something. That was when I was in my 20's. I still get hassled about that!

Roasted Vegetables
Absolutely delicious! The roast beef I made was a complete fail, but the veggies saved the day! I made a couple changes: Didn't have fresh spices so used 1/3 of the amounts of dried (i.e. 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon) as rec by another reviewer. I also let them sit in the liquid for a while. Didn't have regular balsamic, so used white balsamic vinegar. I also baked them at 425 for 50 minutes. I've never cooked butternut squash before and it was delicious. This one's a keeper!

Apple Crisp III
Very easy and delicious. Also VERY sweet. Definitely need some vanilla ice cream to tone it down. I used 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white sugar as other suggested and also some cinnamon to the topping. Can't have too much cinnamon! My husband LOVED it.

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli
I found this recipe a few months ago, but just registered today. I made a few changes: I mix olive oil with salt, pepper, and Cavender's (sp??) greek seasoning, then toss the broccili around an bake it at 400 for 10 minutes. I've gotten SO many compliments. I am so thankful to have stumbled upon this recipe. My 5 year old gobbles it up!
