About this Cook
I am happily married with 2 cats and 2 fish. I enjoy cooking but working full time limits my free time. Because of this I love quick, simple but flavorful meals. I enjoy gardening and am looking forward to my first garden--I just bought my first home--next summer (2008)so I can have fresh ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
Anything with garlic. I looooove garlic!
My favorite family cooking traditions
In regards to my childhood, we had none. My mom's cooking while I was growing up was very bland and disgusting. It wasn't until I met my husband that I truly discovered the world of spices and food. My cooking traditions in my home now are making salsa and making pumpkin pies and pumpkin rolls in the fall. Also a killer cranberry apple crunch pie as well.
My cooking triumphs
Making Thanksgiving Dinner in 2003.
My cooking tragedies
Crab cakes...oh what a disaster they were. It all started with using imitation crab meat and ended with an oily disgusting mess. What I learned from it was that although CRAB MEAT is in the title, the word IMITATION is also very important information.

Barbeque Halibut Steaks
Absolutely phenomenal. As I was eating, I asked my husband "Where has halibut been all of my life?". Following suggestions of others, I doubled the sauce for dipping. The grill ran out of propane just as I put the fish on, so I ended up baking it--so good. But don't get me wrong, I will be making this one on the grill next time because I am sure it will make this recipe ten star!

Shrimp and Crab Bisque
Very good recipe. After reviewing other ratings, I omitted salt and wine and just used 2 cups whipping cream, 2 tsp of Old Bay seasoning, 2 cloves garlic and 1 tsp of cayenne pepper--would NOT use cayenne again, or would do 1/2 tsp (for a kick)or 1/4 tsp (for a little heat). It was wayyy too spicy, and my husband (who likes hot food) said it was really spicy. If it weren't for the cayenne (still blowing my nose), it would be a 5 star recipe.

Good for You Greek Salad
This salad was excellent. I thought to myself that I was silly for following a recipe for a salad (just throw veggies in a bowl!!), but so glad I did. I really get sick of lettuce based salads, so this fit the bill perfectly. I used, by accident, way more olives than the recipe called for, but my husband and I love olives so it was perfect mistake. I will make this again, most definitely.
