I am a wife and mother of 3. I started cooking/ baking at around 6. My mother was blind and she taught me how to cook and bake by having me read the recipes and then telling me what to do.
My favorite things to cook
I absolutely love baking! I start my Christmas baking in November and store away the cookie dough, then in December I simply pull out of the freezer and bake. I am also very fond of trying out new recipes!I also love tweeking recipes and coming up with ideas on my own. Here in Alaska my husband hunts for moose in the fall and fishes in the summer. These items are my favorite to play with and expand on. I enjoy cooking every night for my family, whether it's something new or a tried and true!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Moose Soup, Drop Biscuits, Baked Salmon, Potatoe Salad and Macaroni Salad are just a sample of my Athabascan traditional favorites. Growing up in Alaska just outside of my Alaska native village has taught me the importance of a subsistance lifestyle. Hunting and Fishing off the land is only half the job, the other half would be...Cooking all of it AND sharing!
My cooking triumphs
I am a true baker and have yet to find a recipe I won't try! I do have a favorite "Swiss Cheese Chicken"! A delish chicken dish topped with swiss cheese, stuffing and a warm white sauce.
