About this Cook
I have always liked trying new recipes. I especially enjoy desserts. I raised 6 children who all like to experiment with cooking and a dear hubby who likes "experimenting" experiments on the family...bless his heart. BUT...when he gets to cooking, he does a great job! One daughter has a blog with recipes she enjoys and has shared with others. What fun!
My favorite things to cook
Mexican is my favorite type of food to cook. I especially like doing seasoned roasts. Appetizers, I'm still working on and learning to improve. Desserts! I like playing with cream dishes and chocolate!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ever since I could stand at a table and spread masa on cornhusks (this would be at my great-grandma's house), tamales has been a family tradition. For as long as I can remember, every year around Christmastime, the women folk have gathered to make oodles and oodles of tamales. This tradition continues with me and my sister and our daughters and family/friends. I recall when we would have church missionaries over for dinner and we would assembly line with enchiladas, tacos and tostadas, rice and beans. Yeah, I guess family traditions would be "mexican".
My cooking triumphs
I submitted some home canned fruit cocktail and apple pie filling at the Antelope Valley fair and won ribbons! My pear crumble pie took third in its category. I love arranging fruits and vegetables on platters. They look very professional and I'm grateful that I can do that - especially for wedding receptions and social activities. I am not a pro, but the food does look great! Oh! I cheat using a box mix, but I can make a mean brownie! Oh yum!
My cooking tragedies
Oh...there are quite a few! But how can you improve without failure? I'm really good with pumpkin pie...but what a tragedy! Once I forgot to add the sugar. Ummmm...not very good...but we got a good laugh out of it and it was a learning experience. I was very humbled by that faux pas.

Shiny Chocolate Glaze
Oh! this was so easy and very good. I used 1/2 milk chocolate and 1/2 dark chocolate chips. It was a little bit thick, but spread onto brownies very easily and oh so smooth. Very decadent! Yum!
