I grew up in a family of 10...the only girl amongst 7 brothers. I learned to cook at an early age as both parents worked outside the home. I vowed when I grew up that I would marry a "rich man", because as a teen, I hated cooking...hence I would have a personal chef.
Ironically, I met my husband over 28 years ago and won him over with my expertise in the kitchen. Over 10 years ago I became a private chef and am loving every minute of it...as do my clients.
My favorite things to cook
I have to say my favourites are vegetable, fish or chicken dishes...as it's the only thing I personally eat.
Although I really enjoy fussing...any recipe that takes fresh ingredients and turns them into smiles upon the faces of the people I serve.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have several recipes that I remember my parents making...when they did cook. My father was famous for his Barbecue Pig tails...made with equal portions of Coke and Tomato Soup; he also made Barley Soup..which there was never enough of. To this day I still wow my husband with my mom's Chicken Pot Pie with the home made egg noodles.
My cooking triumphs
A few years ago I decided to hold a very impromptu, 5 course, dinner party for 6 of our friends. They all sat around the kitchen and watched me in action, as I served up each course...it was simply delightful watching them savour the food as it was placed in front of them. We all ended up going for a walk before we could eat dessert. They haven't stopped talking about it, and want to know when we can do it again.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I attempted to fry chicken, it was a disaster. I placed 2 cups of oil in the frying pan, then immediately put the chicken in the pan...and "then turned on the heat" to cook it. The end result was the greasiest fried chicken I've ever attempted to eat. We wrung it out in paper towels before it was edible. It was then I decided that I needed to "learn to cook."
