Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Very good! I am not a huge fan of fruit pies, but this was very good and well received at the event I took it to. I made two pies to use up a ton of apples - one with the full crust and a cutout, one with lattice. I think I actually like the full crust better. I added some cinnamon (1tsp), fresh nutmeg (pinch), and allspice (pinch) to the sugar mixture. I think the recipe would have been just as good without it, but I love those spices. I think this recipe deserves it's high ratings.

Chili I

I have to say I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be given the other ratings/reviews. I am not sure if I will make it again, I have a different recipe I like much better. However, I definitely think the sugar would need to be cut back it seemed a little sweet. My husband liked it ok, but I just didn't enjoy the flavor.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

This was good - I added a ton more ham than it called for - it initially was all potato. I used carrot instead of celery. I really liked the flavor of white pepper in this soup. Lastly, I used chicken broth instead of bouillon so I had to adjust the salt somewhat. Will make again.

Hot Onion Dip

Disappointed in this recipe, I don't feel it had great flavor at all as written. The onions should probably be carmelized beforehand, and I think adding garlic and other seasonings would help. It's a lot of cream cheese and parmasean cheese to use up for disappointing results.

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Was ok, but not spectacular. I am very disappointed because I had been looking forward to making thse for my husband, who loves hot wings. Followed recipe exactly, and added blue cheese on top of chicken. Just didn't have good flavor in my opinion. We agreed this one won't be made again.

Peanut Butter Chip Chocolate Cookies

Very good! The dough was a little sticky, and made it hard to incorporate the chips evenly, but my husband has been consuming them very quickly. Will definitely stay in my recipe box and regular rotation. Thanks!

Roquefort Pear Salad

Excellent recipe. I ran out of time and so didn't carmelize the pecans, but it was still very good. I made sure to buy high quality blue cheese, that makes a load of difference. Look forward to making this recipe with the pecans carmelized. Thanks.

Hot Chicken Salad

This was good - well-received. I wouldn't say I was blown away however. I roasted the chicken first with my standard method: olive oil, salt, white pepper, and celery salt. I doubled the reipce, and used slivered almonds instead of salted. Also, an orange pepper for color instead of green. It is a good base recipe to use and tweak.

Caramel Pecan Pie

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

This was good - but I was expecting more after all of the reviews. I couldn't find the right oz specification of enchilada sauce, so mine had more than the recipe called for, and perhaps that was the problem. The recipe appealed to me because of the ease of throwing everything in the crockpot- and I MAY make it again. I may also look for another recipe. It was good, just not great.

Old-Fashioned Corn Relish

This is a great recipe, it has gotten RAVE reviews when I give away jars, particularly from my in-laws. They keep begging for more! I use the English seedless cucumbers, and leave on the skin but otherwise follow exactly. Thanks for the keeper!

Cabbage Waldorf Salad

This was good - pretty well-received and made a ton! I didn't really like the marshmellows getting soggy. I'll keep it around as an idea, but not sure how often I will make it. The idea of 1 1/2 cups of mayo was a bit much for me, so I used 1 cup of yogurt and 1/2 cup of mayo.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

This was very good - I think it will definitely go into my "arsenal". I had a little problems with the glaze, but that was more because I was rushing through it. Clumps of confectioner's sugar on cookies isn't too asthetically pleasing. I like the suggestion of icing with cream cheese, so I might try that next. Thanks!

Green Chile Cheese Beer Bread

I am honestly not sure about this - it was easy to make and didn't taste BAD, I just wasn't wowed and neither was my husband who loves chiles. I'll keep the recipe around, and perhaps try the idea of chopping my own chiles instead of using canned. So jury is still out on this recipe.

Bierocks (German Meat Turnovers)

The mixture was good, but I'm not sure about the overall recipe. I didn't have any lemon pepper, but followed the recipe otherwise. I tried the biscuit idea, but this wasn't actually easier. I think I will go with the traditional bread dough next time. I had TONS of filling leftover, so I used it for another meal or two. Will keep this in mind but will probably try others as well.

Pretzel Turtles

These went very fast at the bake sale I brought them too- I would have made more but had run out of the chocolate candies. Per advice of other reviewers, I used Dove candies with the caramel inside and waffle pretzels. I also put the pecans on before I put them in the oven so that they would roast properly. Will definitely use again!

World's Best Pasta Sauce!

This was very good, I had been having problems making homemade sauce that my husband approved of, and I really hate using store-bought. This received the stamp of approval, and now will be used quite regularly. I like that it makes a ton, and I can make some in advance and possibly can it, at the very least freeze it. I think the only variations I might try in the future is to use some fresh herbs (basil and Italian parsley), possibly wine, etc. Thanks for the recipe.

Zucchini Patties

This was good - I had some problems with the first batch in sticking to the pan, so they weren't really patties. I had to had a lot more oil than I would have preferred for the 2nd batch to work. It was good but I wasn't astounded, so I might keep looking.

Almond Shortbread I

I thought this was very good - I didn't roll it out but instead pressed it into a pie pan and then cut it into wedges after it was baked. I just sprinkled the top with sugar. I couldn't stop eating it!
