About this Cook
I love food and cooking.I have two teenagers at home but the people I really like to cook for are my friends. I love to hear them ask me what dish I brought to the party so they can make sure they get some. I try different dishes over and over agian until I've gotten it right. I love all kinds of food- adventurous eater as well as cook. Of course, living in Texas, beef is on the menu a lot. My daughter loves anything asian or with pasta so we try new recipes for pasta dishes all the time from the ALLRECIPES website. The recipes I cook usually aren't the low fat variety. I figured out the secret to making people like your food- always make a recipe that uses bacon, butter, or half and half. (don't tell my secret). I read cookbooks for entertainment and inspiration.
My favorite things to cook
Gumbo, by far. I love to spend the 3 hours it takes to cook it and then hear my family and friends rave about that batch. I have a stovetop smoker and my kids swear I'll try to smoke anything. I like cooking seafood, fish clams, etc. And I love cooking something I've never made before.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My little brother and I have a crawfish boil every year. My dad smokes brisket for us every time we go see him (and I usually talk him into sending me home with some). My mom makes the best low calorie recipes. I learn a lot from her about how to make a recipe taste good without adding so many claories.
My cooking triumphs
gumbo, smoked salmon, jamaican rice salad,
My cooking tragedies
I burn the bread every time. I think I'm officially banned from warming bread now.

Hash Brown Casserole II
I used cream of mushroom soup like the suggestions and I added some garlic powder (my preferences). This was great! Took it to an office brunch and it was GONE. Gave out the recipe the rest of the day.

Kielbasa Cabbage Skillet
Wow!! This is one of those recipes I found by typing in ingredients I had on hand. And I was pleased once again with the results. The only change I made is to use bacon grease instead of the margarine (southern thing). It was great. wish I had doubled the recipe so I had more leftovers.

Laura's Unbelievable Chicken and Pasta
This was great. The only thing I changed was to add garlic. I had several of the ingredients on hand and needed a recipe for them. I sure am glad we chose this one!! We'll make these again.
