French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
This was very good. Better than any french onion soup I've ever had. I only had fresh parsley so used only that. Also, I used a mixture of swiss cheese and mozzarella. It was good with the swiss but next time I will try the asiago cheese or maybe provolone. I don't think I'd make with the swiss again. Excellent. Thanks for the great recipe.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2007
I had a problem with the dough. I followed the recipe exactly and even retraced my steps to make sure I didn't miss anything. My dough was very sticky and would not roll into a ball no matter what I tried. It was just a gooey mess. I ended up just spooning dough into each muffin cup. The end result came out fine and the cookies taste very good. I just can't figure out what happened to the dough. Any suggestions by anyone as to what I may have done wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
This was the first lemon meringue I've ever made. The only problem was that the meringue pulled away from the sides after the pie cooled but I heared that isn't unusual. Will make again next Thanksgiving. Thank you for a great recipe.

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
Very light and delicious. First time I made them I didn't whip the cream enough so the mousse had too much liquid in it. It was still tasty though. I made this again tonight and whipped the cream for a good 14 minutes. This time it turned out perfect. I'm serving this as a light dessert for a small gathering tomorrow evening. I think it'll be good topped with cool whip.

Turkey in a Bag

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
This was the first Thanksgiving turkey I've ever made. I bought an 18 pounder. It took just about 4 hours to cook. I put salt, pepper and rubbed the skin with butter. I also put a little butter inside. I added about 1/2 cup of chicken broth in the bag. Very moist and tender. It was a huge hit.

Deep Dark Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2007
I gave the cake 4 stars because one layer broke apart in 3 pieces and the other in 2. I can't figure out why as I followed the recipe to a tee and greased and floured the pans. The cake seemed sticky. Other than that it had an excellent taste. Was very moist. The icing was so creamy and yummy. I recommend doubling the icing recipe for the 2 layer cake. I actually had to anyway in order to "paste" the cake together. I will make again and hopefully the layers will stay in one piece next time.

Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

This was good. Couldn't really taste the vodka. The heavy cream complimented the sauce well. I will try this with shrimp and scallops also.

Cheesy Ranch Potato Bake

This was different. Excellent flavor. I halved the recipe and used only 1 TBS of butter cut up. I added seasoned salt and the bacon seasoning from Tastefully Simple. Served with baked ham.

Bacon and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
This was good. I gave it 3 stars because it didn't seem to have much flavor. I will make again but will experiment with different seasonings. I scaled the recipe to 9 servings because I wanted leftovers. I also added too much broth (3 cans) so there was way too much liquid. My fault as I didn't measure the broth.

Cheese and Bacon-Stuffed Pasta Shells

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2007
Did not like these at all. The taste of breadcrumbs was too overpowering. I didn't use fresh breadcrumbs but dried which may have been the reason. Per another review I did add cheddar cheese with the mozzarella. That was a good move. Other than that I can only suggest cutting the amount of breadcrumbs in half.

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2007
This was good. Cooked in the crock pot for 8 hours on low and the chicken got dry for some reason. Next time I'll only cook for 7. Made the recipe exactly the way it's written. Per other reviews, the sauce does get thin but then again I always thought that chicken cacciatore sauce was supposed to be thin. Very easy to put together for us working folks. Will make again.

Excellent! We loved this. Made as a side dish with grilled NY strip steak. Will also try with roasted red peppers. Used fresh mini mozzarella balls and added a couple of dashes of balsamic vinegar.

Freak'n Good Ribs

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Was expecting so much more after reading other reviews. Wasn't crazy about this at all. I used country style spare ribs and cooked in a slow cooker on low for 9 hours. Then grilled with barbeque sauce. They were actually dry. Might have been because I used a crock pot though. Won't make again.

Indonesian Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: May 28, 2007
Very good mild flavor with a hint of lime. Not over-powering. I didn't have stir-fry sauce so I doubled the soy sauce. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly the way it's written. I doubled the marinade and used half of it on chicken legs. The pork was very tender and the chicken was the same. Will make again.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Very good. I sauteed the chicken in a little olive oil with the garlic, pepper and salt. I added the rest of ingredients with about 1/2 cup water and simmered about 10 min. Will make again.
