After a divorce and moving back in with my parents, I realized how much I missed my own kitchen. It's a personal place for me. I now absolutely love cooking, especially for my new husband in my own kitchen. It's funny how you appreciate things more when you go through a change-of-life situation.
My favorite things to cook
I like to try new things. I like to learn and get ideas from others. That's why I really enjoy this website.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma Grace taught me when I was a little girl how to make homemade pie crust, her homemade buttermilk pancakes, and her big white sugar cookies. I learned from her the meaning of family tradition... which came from the kitchen for her. I'll never forget our family Sunday suppers.
My cooking triumphs
There's been some big holiday dinners that I've 'pulled off'. I was very well organized with checklists and a timeline when to start everything. I was pretty proud that I've been able to serve a holiday dinner bringing all NEW recipes to the table... I feel that was pretty daring!
My cooking tragedies
In my very early twenties, I attempted to cook my very first Thanksgiving Turkey. My biggest goof was that I never checked to make sure the oven worked properly. (It was probably the first time I turned on that stove in the rented apartment I was living in.) After cooking all day, the turkey never really browned up. I believe we only ate mashed potatoes and stuffing that evening.
