I'm married to a fantastic guy and we have a little girl who is now officially a toddler. I love the Farmer's Market and our downtown organic grocery store and cooking with fresh local produce.
My favorite things to cook
I'm always creating new recipes from scratch or just building on old favorites. Once you understand the basics of making a good soup, stew, salad, cookie, muffin, then it's easy to get creative and use whatever you have on hand to make something new and delicous.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's side of the family always gets together every Monday night at my grandmother's house. We bring in amazing food and the desserts are always the highlight. Its a great opportunity to try out new recipes on my traditionally "down home cooking" family.
My cooking triumphs
I love Indian food, but we don't have an Indian restaurant in town, so I'm making my own vegetable curries. They are getting better and better, but still can't match my favorite Indian restaurant in Indianapolis.
My cooking tragedies
This is more of a hospitality tragedy: My husband and I invited special guests to dinner one evening. As we were talking in the kitchen before dinner, I noticed my dog was not right beside me (unusual!). I raced to the dining room to find him chomping on a beautiful apple and onion stuffed pork chop stolen from the plate of hot chops that I had left on the table. Fortunately our guests had great humor about it and I just cut off the part of the chop my dog had eaten and we sat down to enjoy the food. The pork chops were great, thank god.
