Easy Sausage Strata

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2012
This wasn't my favorite breakfast casserole - not enough flavor? Too much bread? Not sure, but I will keep looking for a go-to recipe.

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2011
Very basic, very classic. Made as directed and we enjoyed it. My kids aren't big egg eaters so we liked that the eggs were only really to hold it together and it was more bread and sausage than egg.

Carrot Cake Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
I made these for my son's snack at school and they were well-liked. They aren't overly sweet, but there is enough sweetness to make them appealing, especially with the glaze. I would make these again.

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
This was beautiful to present and tasted amazing. I like to try the recipe as directed before making any changes, and in this case that was a good choice. I made the recipe exactly as written and it turned out perfect! I had a gorgeous biscuity shortcake that was excellent with the whipped cream and strawberries. 2 notes: 1) Some reviewers added more shortening when their mixture didn't really resemble course crumbs. It's true, there isn't really enough shortening for the whole thing to be very crumby - it almost just mixes in, and there are just really fine crumbs. But that's okay, it turns out great. 2) After cutting the cake in half, I spread whipped cream between the halves and put 2 layers of sliced strawberries on top, and then added the top half. I piled some strawberries on the top and put a huge dollop of whipped cream on top of that. Then I spread the rest of the strawberries all around the edges of the plate around the cake, so they encircled the cake. It was really showy, but this is actually a fairly easy dessert to make.

Country Fried Steak and Milk Gravy

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
This is the best steak recipe I have tried, and it's pretty easy. The gravy didn't work out for me as well as I would have liked though. And I would also make a lot more!

Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
This is a beautiful dish, high color and authentic looking. Mine didn't taste a whole lot like sesame chicken, even though I cooked it in sesame oil. But I did run low on sesame seeds so that could have been part of it. I also thought the Chinese five spice gave it an odd flavor, but again I used some that was kind of old. It was still very tasty, just didn't taste exactly like I was expecting. My family liked it though, and it looked very authentic. I would use more pepper and onion next time to give a higher veggie to meat ratio.

Enchiladas Suizas

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
5 stars for taste, 4 overall just because we can't indulge too often due to calories and fat! But sooo tasty. I think the flavor wouldn't suffer if I used 1/2 and 1/2 so I will do that next time instead of heavy cream. I just warmed the tortillas in the microwave to save time and that worked fine.

Cornish Game Hens with Garlic and Rosemary

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
This was a really nice meal. The hens were beautiful brown and juicy, and the sauce thickened nicely and was a great addition. I definitely recommend doubling it, because it's good mixed in with some wild rice too. The garlic cloves spread nicely on the chicken once it's on your plate. My only problem is with hens in general - they're so hard to pick apart and eat!

Ground Turkey Noodle Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
This was very tasty. I have picky eaters (5 and 3) and they both liked it! I made it as directed except used 1/2 cup milk instead of the milk powder and water. My only complaint is it dirties lots of dishes. One thing I did to cut down on dishes is I used the pasta pot to make the sauce in.

Chicken Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Very good soup. Made it exactly as directed, created my own chicken broth by boiling chicken breasts and thighs with some onion, celery and spices. The only thing I don't love is the gelatinous quality of the cream of mushroom soup. I think next time I'll try to make it with milk or cream instead.

Hearty Ham Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This was a really tasty casserole! I used a yummy ham I baked myself and I think the quality of the ham definitely added to it - it wouldn't be as good with a bland ham. It was pretty easy to make - I just baked the potatoes in the microwave while I was getting the other ingredients ready.

Chocolate Cupcakes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
The batter tasted so good, but these cupcakes didn't work out in the oven. They overflowed/exploded and then caved completely in the center. I had to throw away the entire batch and clean my oven. I don't know how anyone got this recipe to work, because I specifically experimented with filling the cups to different levels. The ones filled about halfway plumped up so beautifully to a crown, but then a minute or two later exploded just like the others. Something is wrong with the chemistry of this recipe.

Easy Slow Cooker Meatballs

I love the ease of this recipe. We did think it was pretty bland though. Next time I'll spice it up with some extra italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and maybe some crushed red pepper.

Cornish Hens with Rice Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
This really didn't turn out for me. The hens were pretty flavorless even though I rubbed them with garlic powder and extra salt and pepper. Maybe I should have skinned them first? But I was afraid they would dry out if I did that. And my rice turned out mushy and unevenly cooked, sort of a risotto consistency but not in a good way. I did use 1 cup rice and 2 cups chicken broth, so I'm glad I didn't double the liquid. I'm glad others have like it but it wasn't for me.
