I was born in a small town in Northern Oklahoma....Moved to Texas almost immediately. Grew up working the Theatre, and spending time working in TV, Theatres and Movies. All the while, I was spending time at the BBQ and Chili cookoffs competing on my Dad's teams....I guess that's where my love of cooking comes from when it comes to Texas cooking themes. My Mom is just an outstanding cook, and I secretly hold many of her recipes hostage :)
My favorite things to cook
I am the BBQ master of Northern Virginia! :)
Actually, it's just very apparent that the BBQ on the Eastern seaboard is far different from that of Texas. My smoker is a huge hit! But, I do have my own secret dry rub recipes that really light up a TEXAS sized Beef Brisket, and those lucky enough to try my ribs have said that I make the best ribs this side of the Potomoc. Additionally, I have an affinity for regional cooking outside of Texas. Some of my favorites are New England Clam Chowders, New Orleans Chicken Piquant, Peppered Chicken and Rice...I could go on and on....
My favorite family cooking traditions
Rib Roast for Christmas! How decadent!
My cooking triumphs
I love cooking Italian food. I have had several "triumphs," but I am most happy with the way my Lasagna is received.
My cooking tragedies
Chinese food......Just can never get it to taste the way I think it should. No MSG? Not sure what the problem is, but I have just about given up, especially on complicated Chinese dishes. The Japanese dishes always turn out fantastic!
