About this Cook
Been cooking and loving it since I was eight. My aunt was my cooking mentor. I love eating out occasionally but was recently was advised to follow a Gluten-Free Diet. I'm learning to make G.F. bread, etc., etc. Happily, my favourite restaurant are Asian one's: Baram Bunei, a Korean gem in International Village and Joya Sushi, a friendly, delicious place with take-out and eat in in unpretentious surrounding but comfortable and attractive. Joya is in West Hamilton. (All the minimalist fixtures in Joya were purchased from Korea.) Asian food is great, mostly Gluten-Free. Hey, I plan to continue to eat magnificently!!
My favorite things to cook
Entrees. I'm also excited about learning a new G.F. cuisine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking shortbread, following a recipe from my Scots Granny and tourtiere, my French-Canadian mother's recipe. Have to sub new pastry recipes for these favourites...
My cooking triumphs
I'm a good cook but I don't consider my creations 'triumphs'
My cooking tragedies
A ghastly Tex-Mex recipe prepared when I was a bride trying to please my new husband. It was so gruesome, I threw it out and didn't serve it.

Lemon Bars I
A - one version. It'll be the house favourite. Easy, tangy and delish.

Moist and Savory Stuffing
I do not use packaged stuffing. Let's cook some delicious 'slow' food with fresh ingredients and minimal preservatives.Dice or rip up some good stale bread, chop and saute some onion and celery and moisten it with chicken stock, season with bottled and/or fresh herbs. Add a dollop f melted butter or margarine. Turn into an oiled casserole and bake in the oven the last 45 minutes that the bird is in the oven. Packaged stuffing mixes are a pale substitute for 'slow' stuffing. All good healthy food takes some time. If you don't have time, go to your favourite greasy spoon but don't hold high expectations. There - that's my culinary sermonette for the day!

Byrdhouse Spinach Soup
Fabulous soup that can be a whole meal. I made alterations to make it gluten free by using a Gluten free cream soup mix I make and have at hand. The shrimp really are a touch of genius. Spinach and shellfish go so well together. Thank you for this soup that's towards the top if my soup repetoire.
