About this Cook
I'm a transplanted Chicagoan now living in Texas - specifically, north of Houston. I love to cook and really enjoy trying new recipes. All Recipes is my favorite recipe web site and I refer to it at least once a week if not more. If you can't find it here, you won't find it anywhere!
My favorite things to cook
My husband is a native Texan so I love experimenting with southern style recipes. BBQ is VERY big in Texas so I tend to do alot of BBQing. I'm still trying to find that PERFECT rib recipe but have had alot of fun along the way making many of the BBQ rib recipes here on All Recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's family is Polish and every Christmas Eve we had a traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner of smoked and fresh polish sausage, baked halibut in a cream sauce, a special soup called a borsh with boiled potatoes, saurekraut and lima beans along with a yeast bread made with Czarnuszka, a black caraway seed (although it doesn't taste like caraway at all). The meal may not sound too appetizing in print but it is truly delicious! And such a tradition in our family!
My cooking triumphs
This should say "My Life's Triumphs". There is not much I would say I'm truly good at but cooking and baking is one where I am quite talented. Give me a recipe and I will follow it to the tee the first time around. The second time I'll make adjustments based on my past cooking experiences.
My cooking tragedies
Ha! Too many to list here! It's all trial and error.

Hungarian Goulash I
Great meal to make when time is short. I added a cup of sour cream before serving to make it a little creamy and it turned out great. Also, be sure to use the highest quality, freshest paprika. It will make a big difference.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
I've made many recipes from Allrecipes.com over the years but this one is by far one of the best! The only thing I did a little different - I added about 2 cups of chicken broth to the water, used more ham and about 1 T. of oregano. Magnificent!!

Old Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings
This recipe was so AWESOME! I made just a few changes - added an additional 2 cups of water along with a T. of chicken bullion (for richer flavor) and doubled the dumpling recipe. This is a DEFINATE keeper!
