About this Cook
I am full-time working mom of a college graduate, fourth grader and kindergartner. I LOVE cooking and experimenting. I want to instill the joy and fulfillment of cooking in my girls the way my mother did with me.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my family enjoys. I have found recipes that my little ones and I can do together and ones that my college kid can prepare to awe her friends with.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family makes brigadieros and rouladen for Christmas every year. It's a time when my sister, mother and I sit around the table, open a bottle of wine and work though the preparation...and the wine. I just wish my grandmother was there to be with us!
My cooking triumphs
I've finally learned how to make chicken marsala and have some easy to whip up desserts. I'm no longer afraid of making kebabs or shrimp scampi, all due to this website!
My cooking tragedies
I need to work on my pastry skills and on angel food cake. I just can't seem to get my egg whites frothed and stiffly peaked. Food 911--where are you?

Bear's Picnic Veggie Dip
I only had 9 oz of spinach so that is what I used. I had to doctor it up with 1/4 tsp each of onion and garlic powder. I also added 1/2 tsp of seasoned pepper. Everyone loved it but I know it would have been bland without the spice additions.

Slow Cooker Oats
I omitted the sugar, raisins and butter. I increased the apple to 2 medium gala apples and cooked on low overnight. Luckily I used some non-stick spray, otherwise it would have been awful to get out of the crockpot! Next time I will cook everything on low--it was awful trying to scrape everything out while it was hot. Great for weekday breakfasts--thanks!

Spaghetti Squash I
My squash took nearly 40 minutes to cook. I should have known this recipe would scream of basil from the 2tbsp it calls for. The basil completely overwhelmed the dish--I couldn't taste the feta or anything else. If I make it again, I would omit the basil completely and up the garlic. Kids still don't like squash!
