About this Cook
I'm a graduate of Ball State University with a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education (i.e. Home Ec.). I teach at Valparaiso High School. I'm 23 and have been married to my husband, Peter, for 3 1/2 years now.
My favorite things to cook
Desserts-cookies, cakes, bars, brownies...as long as it's sweet, I'm happy! I also do dinner & bread, I just love baking so much more!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I used to love coming home from school to a snack of fresh-baked brownies or cookies. I guess that is more of an eating tradition, but I loved when my mom baked for my sister and I.
My cooking triumphs
Anything sweet I make that I can convince my husband to make is a triumph!! He would prefer Little Debbie cakes over homemade dessert...I'm thinking he's hooked to the additives.
My cooking tragedies
Gosh there have been so many! The most recent was that I accidentally left the crock pot on (I was making barbeque chicken with bacon) while Peter and I went out to see a movie and shop. Wow, the whole apartment building smelled like burned BBQ when we got home. That was fun to clean...

Cheesy Spinach Lasagna
This recipe produced quite a dense product. It tasted good, but was better (in my opinion) with a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle of salt.

Fruitcake
So far, so good! I'm not a fan of fruitcake, but last year started the tradition of making it for my father-in-law for Christmas. I used one 9x5" loaf pan, and two 5x3" pans, and had the perfect amount of batter. It baked very nicely in about an hour and a half and is in the aging stage right now. Seems like the perfect texture and smell for all those fruitcake lovers to enjoy.

Pumpkin Cookies I
These cookies were loaded with butterscotch chips, which I happen to enjoy! I also added a pinch of cloves to my batch, which I think really gave the flavor some depth; otherwise, I think the butterscotch would have been really overpowering.
