Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
Thank you Tangastar! I love finding a really good recipe and tweaking it to my family's tastes. I followed another reviewer’s great tip and put sliced raw potato in the bottom of the loaf pan to raise the meatloaf out of the oily juices. To the meat mixture I added a green bell pepper - 1/4" dice (because me Mum always did) and a clove of garlic put through a garlic press; reduced the milk to 1/2 cup and used 1 egg. For the glaze I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup, added 1.5 tsp Worcestershire (because I don't LOVE Worcestershire, but miss it when it's not in the recipe - this amount was perfect for me), added several shakes of Cholula hot sauce and put the glaze on top. YumEE! I’m looking forward to trying this with Ritz Crackers or breadcrumbs to find out which binder we like best. Both Hubby & I LOVED this and we haven’t said that about meatloaf in a long time.

Classic Cuban Midnight (Medianoche) Sandwich

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
I've eaten a LOT of Cuban sandwiches (never in Cuba, mostly in Key West) and this tastes as good as the best I've ever had - even though I'm low-carbing it these days and made it with a low carb Tortilla and it wasn't pressed in a grill. FABULOUS recipe. Thank you so much for sharing!

This recipe is DELICIOUS and it's so easy, I'm not too tired make it on a weeknight after a long day. PLUS, I feel slimmer the day after I eat it. Who doesn't love that?

This is a keeper! I followed the recipe exactly (except for mashing the bananas) and it was fabulous!!! The best banana bread I've ever tasted. Thanks for sharing!

Sarah's Applesauce

Oh yum! My favorite recipes are ones that taste delicious, are easy to make and don't require hard-to-find ingredients. Check, check and check PLUS this one makes the kitchen smell fabulous (as another reviewer said - better than any candle). I used Cortland apples and it was great. Can't wait to try other varieties. Thanks PHATCAT for sharing this with us!

Asparagus with Parmesan Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
My husband & I and everyone we've served this to LOVES this recipe. This is one of those dishes where the flavor of the finished dish is greater than the sum of its parts. I keep thinking a dish this simple CAN'T taste this good, but boy, am I wrong. Thanks for sharing.

Lemon Velvet Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2005
Okay, this is NOT a diet recipe, but it is DELICIOUS. My husband made this and served it over panko-breaded, sauteed chicken tenders and it was marvelous. Just the right blend of lemon and cream. THIS is a keeper. Great for "company" or when you want to treat yourself like company. Easy too.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2005
These are excellent! I followed others' advice - added 1/2 tsp salt & baked them on a cookie sheet atop a pizza stone. You CAN put alot on your cookie sheet, they spread very little. These ARE the BEST soft chocolate chip cookie I've made. Thank you Debbi.

Chicken Katsu

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2004
This is simple, quick and DELICIOUS! I don't think we'll make chicken cutlets any other way. I can't believe what a difference the panko bread crumbs make. We leave the breasts a little thicker (closer to 1/2 inch), and they turn out juicy AND crispy. Yummm! Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: May 17, 2004
This was VERY easy to make and very tasty. The sauce tasted salty while I was heating it, but it was perfect after the dish was cooked. I used nice fat Perdue boneless breast halves cut in quarters and the chicken was tender & juicy.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: May 2, 2004
My family LOVES this recipe! I incorporated some of the previous reviewers' suggestions. I added our favorite Taco Bell seasoning to the meat (sans the water)and also pulsed the meat in a food processor before adding the olives, chilis, tomatoes w/ chilis and salsa. I spread spicy refried bean on the tortillas; used jalapenos in place of the green chilis and canned tomatoes with jalapenos as well. I halved the recipe and baked it in a 9" cake pan (perfect!) because I wasn't sure how the leftovers would be. The leftovers were even better, so I'll make the full recipe next time. Thanks for sharing Kathi.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2004
I have to echo another reviewer - this recipe is so good, I've stopped looking at other Enchilada recipes. We make them according to the recipe when we make it for our neighbors who don't like too much spice and add jalapenos when we make it for ourselves. This is a WONDERFUL recipe. Everyone we've made it for has raved about it and asked for the recipe. Thank you so much for sharing Steph.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2004
Wow! The only reason this recipe doesn't have MORE 5* ratings is that more people haven't made it yet. When my husband tried it he gave me his "I'm so glad I married you" look (his HIGHest praise). I took others' advice and cooked the chicken & veggies in broth and then used that broth in the sauce. This tastes like a handed-down-from-Grandma recipe. Made a yummy, flaky, savory pie crust (which took some time), and it looked so good when it came out of the oven we both gasped in awe. Boy, is this a keeper. I'm making a scrapbook/cookbook for my niece, and will put this in the "Win his heart" AND "Comfort Food" categories. Thank you Roberta!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

These are VERY good. I brought them to my neighbors for dinner, and they outshined the main course. Their teenaged daughter begs me to make them, and everyone's faces light up when I walk through the door with them.

Pseudo Sourdough for the Bread Machine

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2001
Excellent flavor and texture and the crust is amazing (I set the crust control to medium). This one is definitely a "keeper". I didn't have barley flour and ran out of bread flour so I used mostly all purpose flour and added 1 Tbs. Vital Wheat Gluten. It baked up nice and tall ~ so nice and tall that I'm glad I didn't scale it up to a 2 lb. loaf. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.

This was quite good and super easy. I cut the butter by about 1/3 and they were still buttery and moist. This will go into "the rotation" in our house. (Thanks to AllRecipe.com, recipes don't come around again the the rotation anywhere near as often as they did before.) Thanks for sharing.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Well, as usual, there is a good reason so many other bakers have rated this a 5 star recipe. Of COURSE everyone loved these! They were a little sweet for my tooth, so next time I will reduce the amount of topping by half (and they will STILL be awesome). Thanks for sharing!

Italian Bread II

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2001
This was a very easy and delicious recipe. The original recipe doesn't tell you what to do with the egg, but I combined the egg & water and washed the bread with it, which gave the bread a lovely shiny crust. I definitely recommend reheating the bread before serving, and spritzing it with water to make the crust crispier. My neighbors begged me to make this again, but hey, they have a bread maker too!

Portuguese Sweet Bread I

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2000
This is delicious and has a wonderful texture. My bread machine doesn't have a sweet bread setting, so I used the basic setting/light crust and it came out great. It rises very high, so you may have to prick the top during the last rise to keep it from overflowing. I'm DEFINITELY adding this to my repertoire. Thank you for sharing this Jennifer!
