About this Cook
I'm a mother of 4 (ages 19, 5, 3, and 9 months) and cooking is my outlet. I love to bake and make cakes. My pics of Sophie's cake is so far my favorite. It look forever to make the flowers with faces, but I had a blast. I love trying new recipes and surprising people with loaves of bread and cakes. I love cooking with my kids. My son thinks every Mother in the world bakes cookies. Family dinners are a big thing in our house.
My favorite things to cook
cake, cookies, dinners, now working on a gingerbread house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Sitting in my kitchen as a child watching my mom bake cookies. Her apple crisp was the best ever! I wasn't allow to talk, because she always forgot how much of this or that she was putting in her bowl.
My cooking triumphs
Just the fact that my kids tell me they love the food and love to cook with me. My son says," Mommy you best baker." It's so cute! The fact that my friends think I'm this amazing baker and cook, and I'm praying they don't find out the truth that I'm about average with good recipes.
My cooking tragedies
Oh there have been several. The soapy tasting frosting (the clear vanilla I had went bad), or the cake for the church that looked great but tasted aweful (bad crisco that I used to soften the fondant), or the many dinners my poor family has suffered through while I work to improve my cooking skills. MY MottO: If you aren't cooking badly, your not in the kitchen enough.

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp
My husband...my husband...who doesn't like dessert in general, who first turned his nose up at this and said. "Oh, uhhh...I'll try it a little later." Uh huh, sure...I thought. Well, he finally he brought some over to the couch, with a little vanilla ice cream on it, and slowly began to eat. He didn't say a word til he was finished, so I thought at best I would get an. "It was ok." But low and behold. He looked down at it and said. "Sally! This is really, REALLY good!" I nearly fell over. So there ya go. The only thing I changed is that I added 1 tbs of melted butter to the apples, and used caramel sheets (the kind you wrap apples in, they worked great). Happy Baking!
