My favorite family cooking traditions
I loved cooking with my Grandma when I was a child. She was a german-russian farm girl, very meat and potatoes. Her recipes were farely simple and she always used farm fresh ingredients.

Beef Stew with Dumplings
This is a perfect base for traditional beef stew. We change the vegatables up depending on the seasons and we also use deer meat in place of beef when on hand.

Zippy Cucumber Salad
This is one of our favorite cucumber recipes. It's easy and we always have the ingredients on hand. We typically do not add the ginger, but it was a nice change. It's a nice addition to spring rolls, noodle bowls or sushi.

Apple Cole Slaw
It was a nice change to the traditional coleslaw. I think it is best eaten fresh because the apples get a little mushy the next day.
