The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

This recipe did not work out well for us. Even after hours in the fridge, the dough was unworkable. I had to add a LOT more flour just to be able to use it for cutting out cookies. Then, because of the extra flour, the cookies were like little bricks.

Hasselback Potatoes

I thought these were very good. I used extra butter, because it just didn't "seem" like enough. The only trouble I ran into was that mine didn't "fan out" at all. You pretty much couldn't tell they were sliced until you cut into them. But TASTY!!

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Lightening fast, so easy, and tastes very good. Can you make a better crust by exerting more time and effort? Yes. BUT for a FAST crust, this is the best one!

No Roll Pie Crust II

Excellent. I left out the sugar, because I was using the crust for a pot pie. At the same time, I also made the other No Roll Pie Crust recipe on this site...this one is definitely superior to that one. I have even made this substituting olive oil for half the oil (again for a savory dish, not a dessert pie) and it was delicious!!

Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Company worthy!! We didn't let it sit overnight. I pulled it out of the oven before we left for church, and we gobbled it up as soon as we got home. I would add a tsp of vanilla next time.

Easy Meatloaf

A perfect basic recipe. Jazz it up however you want. The texture is just perfect, and the glaze on top is wonderful. We prefer the glaze at least doubled, but that's a preference thing.

Wheat Germ Whole-Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes

Batter was completely runny. I ended up having to add a copious amount of flour, otherwise we'd have had crepes for breakfast. The flavor wasn't great. Lots better pancake recipes on the site.

I fully expected this to be gross, but it was SO good. Instead of tortillas, I topped the chicken with broken tortilla chips, sliced black olives, and cheddar cheese just at the very end until the cheese was melted. I also used chicken thighs instead of breasts, so I cooked them at 350 for an hour, covered with foil until the end when I added the cheese etc. YUM! The sauce, thinned, would make a great base for tortilla soup, too.

Baked Apricot Chicken

This was very tasty. It has an almost Asian flavor to it, which could easily be played up with a little soy sauce and some creativity. Yummy served with rice and sugar snap peas!

Chicken Salad Spread

A good starting point. From here, you can get creative - try dried cranberries, or curry powder, or some other affectation. There are so many ways to dress up chicken salad, but it starts with the right ratio of chicken to mayo. I enjoy substituting ranch dressing for part of the mayo. Yum!

I triple the recipe to have extra sauce (we like it over our rice, etc.) We serve it as-is for the children, and then add a little chipotle for the grown ups. YUM!

Ribboned Fudge Cake

My mother requested this for her birthday. I made this for her about three YEARS ago, and it made such an impression she wants it again! This cake is really delicious. I think a lot depends on what brand of mix you buy...I find DHines gives the best results. The cream cheese is easiest to beat after it has come to room temp. If you don't have time for that, soften it briefly in the microwave to make mixing it much easier.

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

This is quite good! I did decrease the sugar. A local place makes this, and it's wildly popular. They use red onions to make it prettier, which I will try next time. I tried adding fresh dill, but I'll leave it out next time. A great side dish! My daughter said it tastes like summer!
