About this Cook
My baking "career" started at the age of 6 when I was finally allowed to help "lick the bowl!" From there, I baked through 4-H, placing on both local & state levels. I have taken classes through AIB. Becoming a dog groomer(now retired)is where the real fun began! My Gramma Hilda created her own gourmet dog treat recipe & we began selling them through our shop. As time passed the treats made their way around the world. We supplied distriubtors nationwide. Hilda passed away in 2000 & the treats went to the wayside. Mom handed me the recipe 3 years ago & we've brought'em back! We now hold a registered trademark & patent pending for "Gramma Hilda's Doggie Delights." The treats debuted at IBIE 2007 & were definitely an attendee eyecatcher! We are now in the infant stages of opening an in house bakery at a local restaurant, offering breads-muffins-sweetrolls,and gourmet dog treats. You'll find our dog treats at www.GrammaHildasDoggieDelights.com or visit JC's at www.JCsDelightsInc.com
My favorite things to cook
Gourmet Dog Treats: Crispy Buttons - Soft Squares - Doggie Donuts - and 1 Treat 5 Ways, Muffins, Breads, and Sweet Rolls.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Before the first egg is cracked, or the first ingredient hits the mixer, we all look up to heaven and smile so Gramma Hilda knows she's always in our hearts at baking time.
My cooking triumphs
1. Baking competition bread, and slicing it in front of a judge revealing no gas pockets/holes!! 2. Taking Gramma Hilda's Doggie Delight recipe and creating & developing new flavors and styles.
My cooking tragedies
I never claimed to be a cook-only a baker. When my husband and I were first married in 1981 I put some chicken on the grill. As the chicken lay there doing its thing I got the bug to make it better! I whipped up a nice texture batter & took it out to the grill. I smothered the chicken with the concoction. After an hour the batter didn't seem to be doing anything except oozing through the grill bars, down onto the charcoal, creating an incredible smoldering sludge! Standing in utter amazement on what to do, hoping my husband would not see this mess, I heard his soft voice behind me..."Honey - what'cha doin'?" I turned to him with a look on my face that consisted of a curled up lip in disgust and wide eyes and said "I thought I would make you some batter fried chicken!?" He didn't laugh until I busted out laughing! We laughed til we cried! The moral of the story is ...there is no moral! We have eaten out ever since!
