Yogurt Almond Ice Cream

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
The taste is terrific! I froze the mixture in a bowl, and stirred it up occasionally. That might be why I ended up with a consistency more like sorbet than creamy smooth ice cream. We will be making this again!

Buckwheat and Summer Squash Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
Buckwheat is such as strong flavor that this could have used more seasoning! I felt that the amount of buckwheat compared to the squash and beans was overwhelming. Next time, I'll cut the amount of buckwheat in half! Maybe the toasted buckwheat would make this better, too!

These were enjoyed by the whole family! I made the meat/cabbage portion, while my daughter worked beside me making the tortillas! Great meal!

Peruvian Chicha Morada Drink

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
A truly purple drink! This is like wassail, very spicy! The amount of brown sugar does not overwhelm you, so this is a comfortable sweetness! I should have put the cinnamon and cloves into a cheesecloth ball so that I could take it out and continue cooking the corn (in a new, separate recipe!) for several more hours, until it puffed out like popcorn. At that point, the cooked corn can be eaten plain or in stews. Thanks for the recipe!

Turkish Halwa

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
Nothing about this recipe was as I expected. When the flour is added to the butter, it formed crumbs! When adding the molasses, I had a soupy, lumpy mass. My wire whisk beat the dough somewhat smoother. After dropping the scoops onto the paper, they never hardened. This was like eating spoon fudge! On the plus side, I can say that this was sweet!

This was frozen sweetened applesauce! It tastes good; next time, I might add some cinnamon and nutmeg!

Fennel Cucumber Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2009
This is really good! I made it once without the fennel because it was unavailable, then again when I found it in a grocery store. Great both times! The flavors combine well, and it looks nice. I have been eating this as a salad, not salsa!

Sunflower Seed Spread

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2009
I like this! I had almost forgotten to add the lemon juice, then saw it sitting on the counter as I was sticking the spread in the refrigerator, so quickly added it. That is what really makes the spread work! I loved the chopped celery and onions with the smoother other ingredients. Thanks!

Super taste! You can taste the pineapple, coconut and banana, but none overpowers the others! I used soy milk instead of the kind called for. Great bread! Thanks for the recipe!

Favorite Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
This was good, but the onion soup mix made it way too salty for me! My teens liked the fact that they didn't have to add salt to their serving! I added a chopped carrot, and garnished this with salad burnette. Next time, I'll have to make my own onion soup mix, and leave out the salt for my liking this!

Applesauce Bread III

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
I used molasses instead of the sugar, upped the cinnamon to 1 tsp, and the nutmeg to 1/4 tsp., and subbed 1 cup whole wheat flour for one of the white flour. Great spicy bread with chunks of juicy apple (I didn't shred the apple, I chopped it!). Frosted with a brown sugar-cinnamon glaze, this made a very tasty breakfast bread!

Potato Squash Cakes

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
I used green onions as the onions, and whole wheat flour in place of the baking mix. Instead of frying in oil, I just put the cakes on a vegetable sprayed griddle. I can taste the summer squash in these hash browns! Great recipe!

Grampy's Special Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
I subbed 1 cup whole wheat flour for the white flour, and used 1 T. molasses for 1 T of the honey. Then, I shaped this into 13 hamburger buns, and baked at 375 for 20 minutes. Delicious!
