Huge hit at thanksgiving. I'm sooooooooooo glad I made this, too, since I forgot to put sugar in the pumpkin pie! Ha!

Cream Wafers

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
"Wow these cookies are awesome, baby!" It doesn't get any better than that! These are just like the ones my grandma made when I was little! I rolled the dough into a log and then sliced the log into rounds, rather than roll out. I had a problem with the frosting, and ruined it (operator error) so I just used tub frosting and they were still great. Next time I'll slice my rounds just a little thinner, to achieve a greater frosting:cookie ratio! Sooo good! These are a keeper.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
5 stars for texture and looks, 1 star for flavor! Very bland... needs A LOT more salt. I did a "test run" of these for thanksgiving and I'm glad i did! i would have been embarrassed to serve them to guests as is. I'm doing another test today, going to use salted butter in place of the oil and add more salt, about 1 tblsp total. I'll update my review then.

Reunion Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Loved this!!! It was a little too sweet for me, but my 5 year old LOVED IT. I'll make these again and cut back a smidge on the brown sugar and add a little hot sauce. Served over mashed taters, made my little dude the happiest boy ever.

Rich, Easy, Old-Fashioned Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I would give this 5 stars except that I scaled it down to 3 servings and there wasn't enough to feed 2 of us!! It was really good and I wanted A LOT more! I'll make the full 12 servings for my family of 4 (one of whom is an infant... I'm nursing so I'll eat her portion!!) VERY very good! Super rich and delicious!

Satiny Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
I wish there were more stars!!!! I put this over a very disappointing cake... the glaze was such a hit! For breakfast, we ate just the glazed portions of the cake and tossed the rest. Beautiful, shiny, and SOOOOOOOOO good. I'm going to be searching for other things to put this glaze on!

I don't get it. I followed the recipe to the letter but it certainly wasnt "black" or "magic".

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
Awesome flavor, shape and lift... my only problem was that they were a little tough. I'm not sure if it was me over-mixing it, or my weird electric oven or the fact that my honey opened the oven door about 40 times "Are they done yet??". I will definitely make these again and try to mix less. I got 5 good sized perfect biscuits and 1 slightly "special" shaped one from the remaining dough. They're all gone and there's only two of us here, so that's high praise indeed!

Tanya's Louisiana Southern Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
I made this using BLSL breasts cut into "fingers" for my son's 5th birthday. He wanted "awesome fried chicken, smashed taters and green beans" I made a whole bag of breasts and between all the kids, there was hardly any left for the grown ups! Soooooooo good! I can't wait to try it with "real" chicken with bones... super yummy!

Soft Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
These didn't work for us. The texture was off and 18 minutes burnt the sticks. The 2nd pan I baked for 10-12 minutes and they were not burnt, but still not great. I won't be making these again.

Mashed Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I loved this! I don't have/like celery salt so I just added a little kosher salt and then topped with shredded cheddar and fresh green onions. A GREAT way to use up leftover mashed taters! This'll be a hit after thanksgiving when we're all sick of turkey!

Love the Mama Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
This mama was NOT happy. I made a single batch of the crust and a double batch of the filling, as several reviews stated. When I poured the filling over the hot crust, it looked thin but I had faith. I baked them up and was SADLY disappointed. Very thin, hardly ANYTHING there. I used a 9x13 pan, which is why I doubled the filling, and 2x the filling MIGHT have worked in an 8x8 pan. The flavor was there... but definitely double the recipe, half the crust and use the smallest pan you have!

Cajun Turkey Stuffing

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
This was great! I used instant rice, because I'm terrible at "real" rice, and it still came out VERY tasty!!! Instead of bulk sausage, I used link sausage (smoked keilbasa type) diced fine and used it to stuff a roasted chicken. Soooo awesome. I'll use the leftovers by itself for lunch tomorrow. I will make this again, going to try it as a base for red beans and rice!

Banh Mi

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I loved this!!! The marinade for the veggies is OUTSTANDING, even though it's so simple. I marinated the chicken in soy sauce and chili paste for a bit before cooking, and made a cilantro mayo instead of putting cilantro on top (dont like the bits in my teeth) Just personal preference, I made the sammich open faced. ALl in all, a great try! Only 4 stars because the one at my local VN place is better.

Chicken in Every Pot Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
I made a roux and gravy from scratch, rather than cream soup, and seasoned the biscuit topping with salt, pepper and garlic rather than celery seed (not a fan). I really liked the IDEA but it didn't taste good to me. There was way more biscuit than filling, and I got way full on bread. I'm giving it 5 stars, however, because my super-picky 5 year old ate 3 helpings!!! That's a hit in my book!

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
Wish there was a 10 star option!! I didn't have high hopes for this - it's a casserole, for cryin' out loud - but between my 4 year old and myself, we finished the whole pan! I made some MINOR changes - I added a drizzle of honey after I mixed the veggies, meat, and spices for a touch of sweet, and I added a drizzle of cream to the bottom of the casserole dish before i layered the potatoes and then antoher drizzle to the top layer of taters, just so they'd get soft. Also seasoned the taters w/ salt and pepper. Word of warning - once you take the first scoop out, it starts to look kinda gross.. doesn't matter! Tastes SO GOOD!

Fudgy Brownies I

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
I'm a cheater and used my mixer, and nothing terrible happened. I added an extra shake of cocoa (a scant 1/3 cup) and chocolate chips, since there were some comments on how the chocolate flavor was lacking. I thought these were AWESOME. I added pecans to half, and they're SO GOOD. IMO, they'd be better with butter, but I have that opinion about everything. I'll be making these again!!

Kona Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
This was pretty darn good. I made it with BLSL breasts and since some of the reviews said it was too salty, I increased the wine and honey and used low-sodium broth instead of water. I wanted a complete meal so at the end of cooking, I sauteed some red bell peppers and carrots in EVOO and then splashed some sauce over top. The chicken looked a little sickly, so I threw it in the pan with the veggies for a quick sear. Served over rice and it was a HIT.

Honey Oatmeal Bread II

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
I added a cup of flour and an extra packet of yeast, per some suggestions. The texture of this bread is gorgeous, just lovely. It needs a little more salt, IMO, to balance the sweet honey. That is easily rectified and I will make this again!

Cowboy Cookies III

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
Followed some suggestions by other reviewers and added a little less sugar and they're beautiful. Added extra vanilla and double the chocolate chips because - well, I like chocolate! Also added pecans and these cookies are AWESOME. They will be a repeat customer in my house and will make an appearance on my Christmas cookie tray.
