Kielbasa and Cabbage

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
I liked it but the rest of the family was not so excited about it. Although I have to add that I grew up in Germany and we had Cabbage once in a while, so I am used to the taste whereas my husband only ever had it in Coleslaw and some boiled cabbage.

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
Love it, my mixer died in the middle of whipping it, so I had to use my hands to mix everything. I kneaded the dough and when happy with the texture I took small pieces of dough rolled them into balls, placed on cookie sheets and flattened them with a fork. They came out looking really cute and after they were cooled, I put melted white and dark chocolate in little baggies and squirted squiggles all over. They look really fancy and taste heavenly. They freeze well too. I got to hide them in the freezer in tins with a different label or the cookie monsters will make short work before Christmas comes. LOL

Apple Raisin French Toast Strata

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
We were supposed to have company and so I chose this recipe to make for for Sunday Brunch. The company could not come as snow made the roads impassable and so it was just us 4. My son and I did not like it, my hubby and daughter like it a lot. I am not into sweet breakfasts and my son does not like the textures of stratas, quiches etc. My husband thinks it should be a keeper recipe. The recipe was easy to follow, I added cinnamon and vanilla to the cream cheese mix and whisked it soft and tossed the bread cubes in it. I bought a loaf or raisin/cinnamon bread a couple days early so the texture was a little denser and not so soft, worked well. It made so much that after 3 days I had to throw out 1/2 of the pan since no one wanted to eat any more. It would probably ok if you had a large crowd for Brunch and served something hearty as well for all the people who are not into sweet breakfast foods.

Whole Grain Waffles

Everyone liked the just fine. A great alternative to the frozen kind. And soo much healthier. I thought the kids would balk when seeing they were whole wheat but they gobbled them up. Next time I'll make a double batch and freeze the leftovers for easy quick breakfasts. Thanks for this healthy delicious recipe.

They get 5 stars. We use this recipe when we have Hot Lunch Friday at school. These are easy to make. We melt the butter and brush it on to save some time and fat. The kids love them and we can make a whole big batch really quick.

I tried and it turned out to be doughy and not cooked, nobody liked it at our house. Sorry. Could have been me, never had it before, stuck to the recipe and I usually get good results even if I am making something new.

German Brotchen Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
I was born and raised in Germany and they are not quite like the Broetchen in Germany but pretty darn good. Even after freezing and reheating in the oven they tasted good. A keeper for sure. The kids love them too. So they will be a staple in my house. I used them as hamburger and hot dog buns - very good.

Corn Chowder I

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
It was not bad but way to bland for our taste. I had even sauteed celery, carrots and rutabaga cubes along the onions for extra flavor and veggie boost for the kids but otherwise I stuck to the recipe and we found it lacking. So I can only give 3 stars and I'll keep searching.

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2009
This is THE BEST! I made it for a Valentine's day banquet and I had signed up to bring a Cheesecake. I like them but usually just buy one. I'm glad I didn't. I had done according to instructions but with the water bath and I let it cool slowly. After I cut it into pieces I put white chocolate shavings on the top. It was a feast for the eyes. At the banquet I made sure I got a piece, hoping it would be ok. It was better than ok, it was heavenly. One lady said that I should make cheesecakes for a living. The only sad part was that we had to share the one piece as this cake was the first one to be gone from the dessert table. It was that good. Thanks a million times for this recipe. It is well worth the effort and I will make it as a special treat for Easter again.

Day Before Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
turned out very well on Thanksgiving. Even my MIL who turned her nose up when I told her I'd do the potatoes the day before and heat them up in the crockpot, remarked later how good they were. I left them a little long in the crockpot and the bottom got a nice brown crust . That was my MIL favorite. So all were happy.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
These muffins are amazing. I bought Texas size muffin pans and doubled the recipe. I got 11 muffins, I might have gotten all 12 if I'd spread the dough a bit. They got nice and high, just like you would get at one of the Coffee House places. I had to adjust the temperature, I went to 375 and they still got very dark at the bottom. So next time I will bake them at 350, my oven seems hot anyway. I had Baker's secret muffin tins and I sprayed the whole things with PAM, I then floured one pan and left the other one without. The ones that were floured came out easier and did not get as dark. Overall I give 5 stars, the recipe rocks! It's a keeper and will definitely be used over and over. Thanks.

English Butter Tarts

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
They were a smidgen too runny, I had trouble getting them out of the muffins forms, the homemade dough was so flaky and so some of the middle ran out, which was kind of messy. I also baked them at lower temp, since my stove has the habbit of suddenly turning up the heat and therefore burn things. So maybe next time I'll add and extra egg to make it a bit firmer. Other than that, great taste, at least that's what my husband says. And he knows his butter tarts. Definitely a keeper.

Pleasant Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
the recipe sounded really yummi, but after I put in the sour cream it was way to sour creamy tasting. I then had to add some cream and I didn't care for it much. My husband and Father in law liked it. The meat was definitely good. Maybe it is just personal preference. The kids ate the sauce over mashed potatoes. So maybe I'll tinker a bit with it.
