Chocolate Chip Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
I followed this recipe exactly and they turned out good. Not the best cookie ever, but good to have in my Christmas baskets nonetheless. I tasted one while warm out of the oven and was really disappointed, but after they cooled the flavor improved. They were very quick and easy to make- so thanks for the recipe!

Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
This mix was so easy to put together! I did sift the (non-fat) milk powder, cocoa powder and confectioner's sugar to get a nice smooth texture. Mixed it in my stand mixer with the whisk attachment and it was fast. I actually put this mix into plastic frosting decorator bags- layered with sprinkles, crushed candy canes and marshmallows- they make a great Christmas Gift!! Thanks for a wonderful recipe!

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
I made a 1/2 batch of this mix, using 4 cups all purpose flour and 1 cup whole wheat. I used butter instead of shortening as well. I ended up mixing the entire batch with 2 cups (plus a little) of milk and it ended up a tad too wet- will def use just 2 cups milk next time. I mixed it in my stand mixer and this was so easy. I used the mix for cheese dumplings in my tomato soup- got about 7 of them into my pot. I made up 13 more dumplings and froze them (uncooked) in a greased muffin pan. Now tomato soup with dumplings will be a quick meal and less work! Thanks for a great recipe- its a keeper for sure!!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
I love this recipe because I always have these ingredients in the kitchen and its so easy! I did change it according to other reviewers' suggestions: I doubled the meat and more than doubled the sauce. We don't like bell peppers so I omitted them. I used an entire small yellow onion, and substituted about 1/4 of the ketchup with BBQ sauce- which was a little sweet so I left out the brown sugar. I ended up adding a little water, all told maybe about 1/2 cup or so, as well as 3-4 tsp apple cider vinegar and 1 baby can of tomato paste. This made a huge amount of very nice, very sloppy joe's! I also took another person's suggestion and froze servings in a muffin tin to be used up later- great idea!! I will always double this and will never have to buy the mix again! Thank You! Giving 4 stars just cuz I did change it from the original

Kielbasa and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
I gave this 4 stars, my fiance gave it 3.5. I used sliced red potatoes, skin on and followed the advice to parboil them for about 8 minutes first- and I'm glad I did! I also lightly browned the kielbasa with the garlic and dried minced onion before putting it all together. I used Cream of Celery soup, and 1 can of FF milk. I cooked at 375 for about 50 minutes and it was perfectly cooked. Fiance complained it was a tad bland and a tad too soupy. So we'll work on that for the next batch! This was easy, pretty quick and tasty. We'll def make it again- THANKS!

Lemony Quinoa

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
Wow- this is GOOD! As someone else recommended- I added the spices directly to the cooking water, as well as some dried onion and a dash of garlic powder. I do not like red onions, and didn't have celery but they are definitely not necessary- this is delicious even without them! The spices still come out very faintly, but the tang of the lemon juice is a perfect compliment. My fiance raved! Thanks for a great recipe!!

Sausage Crescent Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
I made some changes to this since all I had was sweet italian sausage & FF cream cheese and I thought it might be a tad bland as written. I added dried diced onion, pizza seasoning and sun-dried tomatoes to the sausage and cream cheese mixture. I divided each roll of biscuits into 4 rectangles which made me 8 rolls/puffs. I lined each one with a few slices of turkey pepperoni underneath the filling. Before placing them in the oven, I topped them with some shredded cheese. The dough directions called for 375 degrees, so thats what I baked them at, for 15 minutes. These turned out pretty spicy from the pepperoni, which my bf LOVED, thus the 4 stars. I tried one and honestly wasn't too impressed- I would give 2 or 3 stars. Might make these again for the bf...

Tandoori Chicken I

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
I used a Tandoori spice blend I bought at the grocery store, combined with the lemon juice and yogurt idea of this recipe. I didn't really measure but used about 1-2 cups greek yogurt with probably 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice. I used 5-6 tsp of the spice blend, mixed it all together and marinated my chicken thighs for around 2 hours then baked. Personally, I don't think you can get anywhere near a real Tandoori flavor with just ground Allspice.

Sweet and Sour Kielbasa

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
I wouldn't say this was "amazing" for taste, but it was good and very easy to make with ingredients I have on hand. This was a last minute dinner for us and worked out well. I halved the sauce for 1 pound of kielbasa, and this was plenty of sauce! I made the sauce according to the recipe except I used dried minced onion and added some garlic powder. I made this on my stove, brought it all to a boil, added about one tbsp corn starch to thicken it up and voila! Done in about 30 minutes exactly. Served over white rice. Note* my bf said this would be a 5 star meal if it was a teeny less sweet and a little bit spicy. Thanks for the recipe!

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I hate frying bacon. I tried this method although I started out with the oven set at 375- the bacon cooked for about 15 minutes when I realized it was going to take too long! I upped the oven to 420 for about 10 minutes and the bacon still looked undercooked. So, I turned my broiler on high for about 3-5 minutes and the bacon ended up coming out Perfect! Tasted wonderful with very little effort on my part! Yay! I will cook my bacon this way from now on. Thanks!

Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2009
My bf and I LOVE the broccoli salad at Sweet Tomatoes, and this pretty much is it! I didn't really measure anything- used about 1/3 bag of fresh broccoli from Costco, about 1 handful real bacon bits, 2 handfuls dried cranberries and 1-2 handfuls of cashews (the best!)... I won't eat onions unless they are cooked, so I omitted those. For the dressing, I used 1/2 FF mayo and 1/2 Light, and started out with only 1/4 cup sugar. I'm glad I didn't put in the full 1/2 cup sugar, cuz this was SWEET enough! I did add one extra Tbs of vinegar, and it turned out perfect. THANKS for an awesome recipe!!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This came out really tender and with such good flavor. My boyfriend said it was a bit too sweet for him, and I agree so next time I might cut down the sugar a bit. I did double the sauce, and next time I might use the single recipe amount since I love a sticky teriyaki and this was not, the way I made it. Overall a very yummy dinner and so easy with all the ingredients things I have on hand. Thank you!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This was good, but certainly not the best ever. I did make some changes, so maybe thats why. I didn't have tomatoes, so used 1 can paste with some marinara, I used almond milk instead of heavy cream, and red wine turkey sausage as that is what I had on hand. Turned out good, was definitely a good and very filling dinner but was a bit of a let down from the reviews, etc. The spice was a nice touch. Thanks!

Perfect Berry Shortcakes

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
OH MY GOSH! These were SO EASY, SO FAST, and SOOOOO YUMMY! :) I've never made shortbread before, but we had a ton of cheap fresh local strawberries (I only used the biscuits part of this recipe) and were craving Strawberry Shortcake. I tried grating the butter, which mostly worked and might have been a lot less messy if it hadn't been 100 degrees today... it certainly was fast. Also, I decided not to roll out the dough as mine was kind of wet- instead I roughly shaped 6 balls and dropped them on my cookie sheet. I will say the sprinkled sugar on top is a MUST! Makes all the difference! :) Anyways- I will definitely be making this again and again this summer! Thank You!

Tortillas II

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
This was the first time I ever made tortillas from scratch and I feel very proud of my creations! This was very easy, but there was no way I was getting 12 tortillas that could have any kind of filling in them! I made 7-8 medium sized tortillas, and the only complaint I have is that they were pretty crunchy and stiff. I wish the instructions said to roll them out SUPER THIN, and gave hints for keeping them soft. Next time I will double the recipe and try putting them in a plastic bag to get soft. THANKS for the great recipe though!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
I was in a pinch when I found this recipe- I had all my taco fixins ready and the meat browning- but no spice mix! I put it together in about 2 minutes and it was GOOD! Just the perfect amount of spice to leave your taste buds tingling when you're done! I used the full amount for 1-1/4 lb meat. THANK YOU!

Mayonnaise Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
I probably overmixed these- but they turned out AMAZING! So soft, moist and yummy! I made the full recipe into 6 Very Large biscuits, with pepperoni and cheese sandwiched in the middle, and a sprinkle of cheese on top... I WILL be making these again!! UPDATE** I made these again, sub'd 1/2 the milk for marinara, added a handful of shredded cheese, a handful of sliced/diced pepperoni, and a few diced up sundried tomato pieces and mixed it all lightly together with my stand mixer. It made 12 drop biscuits, They turned out good, texture was fantastic but flavor was "eh". I will continue to use this recipe and experiment- it is PERFECT for trying new things as long as you keep the ratio amounts the same! Thank you so much!

Marshmallow Delights

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
UPDATE: I've made these several times in the last week, and I've used both the store brand rolls and the name brand Pillsbury rolls- I must say that the Pillsbury rolls were easier to roll up, leaked less and baked up yummier! ************* Oh My WOW. These were so easy to make, it took me about 10 minutes! I used 6 mini marshmallows per roll, mushed them together and used a toothpick to dip them in the butter and then cinn sugar. Kept things really simple and clean too! I placed them in muffin tins to cook, and although I SWEAR I sealed these completely, about 1/3 of them overflowed so I was thankful for the muffin tins. The flavor is exceptional for so little effort- I will make these A LOT!!! Oh and they are even good at room temp, the inside stays all gooey- SO YUMMY! Thanks!!

Ashley's Chicken Katsu with Tonkatsu Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
I'm not sure if I should even rate this on here, because I only used part of the recipe. But here goes. You do NOT need to season the bread crumbs/flour! The Tonkatsu Sauce is the seasoning and my advice is to just go buy the Kikoman sauce at the store- it is simply amazing! Also, you DON'T NEED TO DEEP FRY this! I used chicken tenders, which require no flattening! I followed the breading directions, placed them on a cookie cooling rack on a cookie sheet and baked for about 20 minutes at 350. They didn't turn out dark golden but were crispy and SO GOOD! I served over white rice with a drizzle of the sauce- AMAZING! Pics will be up soon!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I had a 2.5 lb beef round roast I needed to cook, so I used this recipe. I used savory garlic and herb soup mix, 1 can cream of mushroom and I accidentally dumped in a can of cream of chicken! Used just under 1 can of water, and about 1-2 Tbs onion flakes. I did NOT sear the meat- it is completely UNnecessary! Cooked in my rival crockpot on Low for 9 hours and this roast fell apart when I touched it! We had it with salad, the flavor was good but the meat was soooo tender! Leftovers tomorrow with mashed potatoes and gravy! YUM! THANKS!
