Papa Drexler's Bavarian Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
Tastes like Pretzels. I am quite impressed with my first ever try on this. The dough is a little hard to roll and knead, but definitely worth it. I found it a tad doughy after 10 minutes so I left it in for another couple mins, making sure they didn't burn.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
Best bread recipe to date. Many breads I've tried ended up with a super hard crust and way too soft inside, resulting in me crushing the bread while trying to delicately slice it. This is soft and spongy and a nice little sweet taste to it. The crust is not hard (finally!!). I'm sticking to this recipe from now on.

Popovers

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
OMG! The best! I have never successfully made yorkshire pudding or popovers, but these turned out incredible!!!! I only had to alter the recipe a little bit to fit what I had on hand. Margarine instead of butter and Homogenized milk instead of regular (because hubby grabbed the wrong one). Dont let the butter bubble, it might not make it, just let it melt. I also added chopped garlic and some Italian seasoning. As well, I used a mini loaf pan instead of a muffin pan. The whole pan was gone in minutes. It was INCREDIBLY tasty.

We used to make this often when we were younger. Goes really well with half cranberry and half club soda for a bubbly sensation.

Naan Bread

Makes great pizza bread. I made a double batch and formed balls then wrapped in saran wrap and froze them. They will expand a little, but thaw very fast. Just roll out and top with favorite pizza toppings. I also added garlic and omitted yogurt, because I didn't have any. Seemed to turn out ok.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
OMG! So tasty, so moist! Unbelievable. I'm almost afraid to look at the fat content, but I would make this for any special occasion. I didn't have cream cheese icing but I would bet that it would go soooooo well with this. I was leery about the level of sugar in this recipe, and ended up substituting in about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of brown sugar in, which I think helped make a tasty thin crust on the top.

Hamburger Potato Casserole

Much better than I expected. My hubby wanted it again the next night! This would make a good potlock dish, or when you have lots of company over.

Mussels Provencal

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2007
Pretty good. I only had pre-frozen mussels since I do not live in an area that you can buy fresh, so I cooked them right at the end and turned them in. The pasta was pretty good, decent flavor, although I do not usually like such a watery sauce on my pasta. I would try again and modify the ingredients to more my liking.

Mussels Mariniere

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2007
Pretty good. My first attempt with Mussels. Because of my location I was using frozen ones, that I cooked up and added at the last minute so I had to adjust the cooking somewhat. I also added red pepper and mushrooms to the recipe. I found it to loose, would prefer a thicker sauce, but the taste was still very good!

Samosas

It does take a bit of work, and my stuffing wasn't quite as good as I hoped. But the dough recipe was perfect! I think I would use larger circles of dough next time I make this.

Onion, Garlic, Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
Made the dough manually so I could put it into muffin pans. It was a little dense and I baked for almost 40 mins... probably would have been ok at 30... but it was very tasty. Makes a good little snack or side with dinner. I took some of the users advice and used some diced real onion, which gave it an awesome flavor without giving you 'onion breath'. Could use a tad more garlic flavor, but it was very nice and suttle nontheless.

Pilgrim Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2006
Tastes just like pumpkin pie, except with the fresh pumpkin flavor. I am not very good with pastries but even the crust turned out very good! I might keep that recipe for other pies. I added a dash of nutmeg, because it just goes well with pumpkin. The whip cream was perfect, nice suttle flavor that just complimented the pie nicely

Marinated Pineapple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2006
I didn't have the wine, and I didnt add soy sauce, but I used the rest of the ingredients (except I had fresh pineapple on hand) It was quite tasty! I also added red pepper and some spiced rum. The pork chops were still a tad dry in the center after being in the crock pot all day but they fell apart nicely. I would definately do this again.

Banana Bread - Quick Bread for Machines

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2006
I used this recipe in the oven and not the bread machine and it turned out great. I mixed the bananas, egg, oil together, then added the sugar and baking soda/powder (mix very well to get slightly fluffy). (I usually use more than the suggested # of bananas, by at least 1/2 extra banana) Then added all that to a larger bowl with the flour and some cinnamon. Baked for 40ish minutes at 350-375 (depending on your oven). Took it out when the toothpick came out clean. I also added blueberries to the mix. Very tasty. Light and Fluffy.

Pizza Dough III

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2006
Awesome crust. Even better than the crust I've been making for a while now. 1 cup of water is almost too much for the amount of flour in this recipe. You need to reduce the water or add flour. Very nice cripy outside and very light and fluffy inside. I also added seasoning to the dough and it turned out great.

Easy Focaccia

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2006
Very tasty. Rose nicely, even though I didn't put it in a cold oven with a pan of water. I will try that next time and maybe add some herbs right to the dough as well. Parmesan doesn't melt like some might expect it too (such as mozza or cheddar) it browns, but you need to add it on before you bake so it will stick to the top.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2006
Mmm. Awesome Bars. I was looking for an alternative to muffins since they all seem to come out dry or flavorless. I took some of the other users' advice and used butter instead of shortening and substituted some brown sugar for the granulated sugar. Be sure to cool them thoroughly before cutting (i put mine in the fridge after they cooled on the counter before cutting)

Jumbo Fluffy Walnut Apple Muffins

Taste was very very good, but I think some of my baking ingredients have lost their freshness and power because they would not rise. (I am also using Splenda). I will definately try again once I get new baking powder.

Was just a little on the dry side but otherwise very tasty. I used splenda instead of sugar too and added chocolate chips instead of nuts. Next time I might add a banana for flavor and extra moisture.

Tzatziki VII

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2005
I didn't have cucumber on hand, so threw in a spoonful of sweet relish. The other ingredients masked most of the flavor of that, but all in all turned out to be a very good homemade tzatziki. I didnt drain the yogurt, too time consuming, and diced a little onion (very fine) into it as well. Turned out very good!
