My favorite things to cook
I love making Italian and Asian foods the most. I really enjoy making desserts but get disappointed that people always skip it because they ate too much or are on a diet. I really like making fun-looking edibles for my son (actually they're more for me, hehehe)
My favorite family cooking traditions
The most traditional food in my family is Southern food. My mom and grandma had some great recipes for foods I refuse to eat if they didn't make it. The other side of my family is Italian, but unfortunately my grandma became senile by the time I asked her for her recipe for sauce (which was the best in the world). Anyway, she didn't have it written down anywhere -- she had been making it from memory for over 50 years.
My cooking triumphs
I started helping my mom in the kitchen when I was about 3 or 4. The first thing I ever made was caramel popcorn balls. I started cooking on my own and creating my own recipes when I was 8. But I've got to admit... my best cooking has been done when I started looking up recipes online. I tweak them all my own special way. My biggest triumphs were altered recipes I stole from great people like you that share recipes online 8)
My cooking tragedies
Hmmm... anything cooked in the oven of my first apartment -- the oven didn't heat evenly. I also added WAAAAAAAY too much salt to something when I was about 12 and I thought my family was going to shrivel up like a slug. Oh, when I was about 9 or so, I made some kind of juice/milk smoothie thing which ended up curdling within minutes and I felt nauseated for the rest of the day.
