Still a single cowboy at heart
About this Cook
I am a divorced father of 4 grown kids. All are through college and employed except the youngest who has completed her second year and now is in the USAirForce. She is the reason I had to cook. At my seperation, prior to my divorce, 6 years ago, she decided to live with me. So out of neccesity I learned a little. My Mom, bless her heart, gave me a Good Houskeeping Cookbook when I left home in 1967. I still have it and use it often even though the pages are worn or stained. I have no idea who Susan is, in the book, but everything is "Susans Meatloaf or Susans Potato Salad or Susans whatever. Susan ate well. So do we.
My favorite things to cook
Fish,Meatloaf,Beef or Venison stew, any beans or greens with a ham bone and ham meat in it. Good Steaks on the grill. Homemade potato salad,Chicken and Pork. Anything on the grill is great. Grilled fish are my favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
New Years Day: Ham ( Hog Jowls), Blackeyed Peas and corn bread. Thanksgiving Day: A fresh turkey (not a frozen one) Stuffing with hot sausge, turkey gizzard, neck and livers boiled for broth, plus onions. Of course fresh mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits and cranberrys. I wish I could bake a pie but so far it's beyound my limits...
My cooking triumphs
My first, by myself, the total Thanksgiving dinner for my family in 2006 My "Susans Meatloaf" is a hit with all my family. this "all recipes" web site has broadened my culinary horizons. So many contributors put easy to follow recipes on here. They are a great help to me. I made my first deviled eggs this week. That was quite a accomplishment for me.
My cooking tragedies
Anything to do with a cake, brownies or pie!

Ground Beef Stroganoff
Very easy to perpare and quite tasty when finished. Of course a bit of Texas Pete and Whorchestire assists for my personal taste. Of course I add those to most meat dishes

Ted's Beef Stew
It was both easy to prepare and a excellent stew. I did substitute venison for the beef since deer season had been kind to me. Since I have no small kids I also added a bit of Worstchestire and Texas Pete, to taste. I also didn't have any frozen peas but found a regular can of baby peas works well.
