I'm a musician living in Saint Paul, Minnesota - One little apartment, one rabbit, two people, three computers, about 200 action figures, 300 cds, and a few thousand books. Enough dishes to serve 25, no problem...but they'd have to sit on the floor, because we don't have a table.
I read cookbooks constantly. I love reading archaic recipes. I'm fascinated by nutritional anthropology. I'm interested in all sorts of American regional cuisine. I believe in butter, not margarine.
My favorite things to cook
I'm constantly trying to find a balance between good food, healthy food, and cheap food. I love my slow cooker, and The Boy loves his deep fryer. I'm learning how to cook meat after years of cooking for a vegitarian. I want to be able to make everything possible with a potato. I'm into improvisation. I rarely follow all of the directions in a recipe. Unless I'm baking, of course! I love studying the foods of other cultures, but I'm not troubled if I can't cook something with authenticity. The flavor is the important thing.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Boy grew up having nacho platters once a month or so...refried beans, salsa and cheese spread on a plate and baked, then topped with black olives, tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. Not classy, and not at all authentic, but majorly delicious. The Boy loves Chinese takeout, so for Thanksgiving, we always get a party platter of Sesame or General Tso's chicken instead of turkey!
My cooking triumphs
I make good deep-dish pizza in a cast-iron skillet, good banana bread, and killer chocolate cake.
My cooking tragedies
Horrible cookies that tasted like baking soda, burnt sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving. Even The Boy/garbage disposal couln't eat them!
