About this Cook
Well, I'm 50 now and proud of it. Life has been full of twists and turns, but I am still 'Pollyanna-ish' !! I'm married to my best friend and have an incredible daughter and a wonderful step-daughter and two great son-in-laws. I'm now "Ahmee" to three little boys from 3 months to 2 years and a little granddaughter who is 8 months going on five! I have a sister who is the best friend anyone could ever ask for, my soul angel. I love gardening, reading, the beach, traveling, swimming, mostly being outdoors, hand work like cross-stitch, crocheting, etc and sometimes I write poetry. The majority of the time I'm running from one project to the other!
My favorite things to cook
Most recently I've begun an interest in old family recipes and 'pioneer' or 'farm' ways of cooking. I've found some wonderful old cookbooks....I guess you could label it comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom didn't really cook so I learned alot of my cooking basics from my best friend's mom and my grandmother. After I got out on my own, I was always experimenting and wound up being the house that all our single guy friends showed up at for meals!
My cooking triumphs
I guess the thing I'm best at is soups and bread....I really enjoy soups because they are never the same for me, but I always start out with the same 'base'. My family makes me 'write it down' when they really like one, because they know I'm 'that' kind of cook! haha
My cooking tragedies
The time I got distracted doing other things and let the water run out on hard boiled eggs....my husband never lets me forget it, oooooooooooooo that smell!!!!!!!

Okra, Corn and Tomatoes
I loved this recipe! "Southern" vegetables are a new thing to me and I am enjoying experimenting and using the recipes from here to try things in new ways! I did this on the spur of the moment after purchasing fresh okra from the fruit/veggie stand down the road, so I altered it by using fresh okra and went with another reviewers suggestion of cutting down the corn! It is awesome and NOT goopy like some okra recipes I've made! A much better alternative to breading/frying healthwise! THUMBS up!
