About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Spaghetti, Cookies, Thai food
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas morning everyone pitches in and makes eggs Benedict. Spaghetti is a huge part of my family - the making of it and eating it just makes me feel at home, even if I'm far away.
My cooking tragedies
I was making won tons...I usually make my own skins, but I thought I'd buy some...when I went to make them, (actually assembling them) I realized I'd bought the wrong thing somehow, and the sheets wouldn't stick together no matter what I did to them...I ended up layering them in a pan kind of like a lasagna so I didn't waste the filling - it wasn't too bad in the centre, but the edges were so nasty!

Oatmeal Shortbread Cookies
I had a problem others have experienced...I followed everything exactly and it just would not stick together. I ended up sprinkling some water over it until I could get it to stick together, then using my hands to form balls and then I had to flatten them out. They ended up just being blobs of... something. They taste a bit odd...a bit more sugar would make them taste better.

Curried Wild Rice and Squash Soup
I really liked this recipe. I made a few adjustments based on what I had, and I think it turned out great! I used 2 cloves of garlic instead of 1, because I love it; my husband went and drank all the orange juice right before I went to make it, so I ended up using apple juice instead and I think it worked really well. I also didn't have wild rice, so I just used brown rice and I think it's pretty good. This is definitely a recipe I'll come back to and play around with. Thanks!
