About this Cook
I'm much more involved with cooking lately. I love the cooking shows and cooking/baking sections of magazines. I am always trying to find a way to spice up everyday meals or try something new.
My favorite things to cook
Soup, Stews, Casseroles, anything chicken.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Meatless dinners with mostly seafood and vegetables for Christmas Eve. Turkey or capon for Thanksgiving. Roast duck or lamb for Christmas. I like the traditional ham off the bone for Easter.
My cooking triumphs
I recently tried to duplicate the taste of an imported frozen pasta entree--fettuchini and portobello mushrooms in cream sauce. I played with the sauce and seasonings until it tasted just right. It was delicious.
My cooking tragedies
Last Thanksgiving I burned the skin on the turkey so bad that I just carved it all up before the guests arrived. The meat was fine but I felt bad when everyone piled into the kitchen wanting to view the bird!

Grilled or Fried Skirt Steak
Tasty and easy recipe. I loved the flavor of the skirt steak. It was tender and juicy and the cutting tip re across the grain of the meat was very helpful. I melted a tablespoon of butter of the steak since I didn't have blue cheese on hand but I bet that would be delicious. I also dusted the meat with garlic powder before cooking. I never tried skirt steak before but will definitely use this recipe again; maybe in fajitas or for sandwiches.

Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin
I loved this easy and delicious recipe. It was juicy and tender just as the other reviews have said. I made it as it appeared on the site and it was great. I like spices so the next time I make this I would slit the meat and push in pieces of garlic and ginger. I'd add a bit more brown sugar to bring out the tenderloin flavor. I will repeat this!

Real Potato Leek Soup
Delicious and easy to make. Dressy enough for company. I love the subtle leek and potato flavors. Hearty yet elegant. I whisked in a bit of sour cream upon serving--tastes great--but fine without. You can cut down on the liquids as you like to make a thicker or thinner broth. Definitely a keeper.
