About this Cook
I am a married, full time student living in a cozy little apartment in Toronto, Ontario. I am specializing in Internation Development Studies, so I hope to do my share in changing the world and experience as much of the world and all the wonderful cultures in it as possible. I became a vegetarian in October, 08 and recently my husband has hopped on board as of January 09, so this expected challenge has become a very exciting challenge allowing me to get extra creative with food. I am always learning more about nutritional needs so I enjoy challenging myself to make the healthiest meals I can; trying to include all the necessary nutrients, especially because we are vegetarian.
My favorite things to cook
My favourite things to cook are anything vegetarian. I also enjoy cooking Asian meals, mostly Thai and Japanese. My favourite meal to cook is a recipe I made up, and have yet to add to Allrecipes.com It is our favoruite meal and is the only meal I cook more than once, but I constantly switch up the ingrediants and spices so it never gets old.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't think we have any family cooking traditions to be honest. My parents didn't cook any family traditional meals to be passed down..
My cooking triumphs
You would have to ask my husband that. But I do manage to impress him with every meal. I hardly ever cook the same meal twice, I am always improvising, adjusting, or being creative with whatever we have or whatever I am hungry for. If I had to pick. I would say my wedding cake (cake not icing), and our favourite vegetarian meal that I have not been able to name yet.
My cooking tragedies
tried baking some blueberry square thing that I found on this site, and totally ruined the whole thing and I was looking forward to it so badly. The whole top burnt to a crisp because it was made from a brown sugar crumble mixture, and the oven only had its top element on, not both (very bad stove) and the rest of the square was completely raw. Second tragedy: My wedding cake icing job. I had to get my grandma to ifnish it for me because I was ready to throw it in the lake.

Persimmon Bread III
I used this recipe to use up pulp I had left over from making fresh juices. I had been looking for a good recipe to use it up and this one called for quite a bit of pulp. The pulp I had used consisted of apple, beet, celery, and lots of carrot. It worked great! it was a little heavy on the all spice for me - but it is still really delicious. half went into a loaf, the other half went into muffins which I baked for around 30 min. The taste great!

Banana Bread VIII
I made this for a class breakfast potluck with vegan students. I added 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp of vanilla, 1/2 cup walnuts, and 1/2 cup of applesauce just for kicks. 1/2 the flour I used whole wheat. I also put a streusel topping according to another reviewers recipe. They were sooo great, everyone loved them and asked for more.

Berry Sour Cream Cake
I am so disappointed. I was sooo excited to make this, the recipe and reviews were great. I even had a camera ready so that I could add the final photo since this recipe has no image yet. But, It turned out awful:( 1st. I had to bake it an extra 25 minutes! with foil on top because the edges were burning but the inside was still completely raw. 2nd. once I took it out it felt solid on top, but when I cut into it, it all fall apart due to the amount of berries in it. 3rd. I wasted my time and ingredients making a streusel topping because the berries and streusel sunk and the cake ended up baking over top of it all. I used 2 cups blue berries, and 1 cup of blackberries and raspberries; by far too many berries. Next time I will stick to 2 cups blueberries or raspberries only. I have confidence that this could be an amazing recipe so some day I will try it again and give it a better rating. but for now I give a 3 because it has potential.
