I am a homemaker and a mother of one beautiful daughter who is three. My family is my passion and I love being able to meeting their needs. I have been very blessed with a wonderful husband, who I've been married to for almost six years and is the love of my life. My daughter Abreia brings a wonderful joy to my life each and every day. It's amazing the things you can learn when looking through a child's eyes. All the small wonders of the world that we so many times as adults overlook, that a child can show you all over again.
When I am not tending to the needs of my family I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, decorating cakes and cookies, photographing my beautiful daughter and shopping.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook would be; comfort food, chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and gravy, fried chicken, things my mother taught me how to make. As much as I love comfort food I also love to try new things. I'm always looking for new recipes to " spice" up the usual weekly dinner menus. I get tired of having the same old things week after week. When I and baking one of my favorite things to bake is cookies. I am always looking for a new perfect cookie recipe. I would have to say there has not been a type of cookie that I've tried that I haven't liked.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking traditions I think are more memories then tradition. I can remember as the little girl not wanting to play but the other kids, but wanting to be in the kitchen with my Gammy, Grandma and Mom cooking, baking, and making candy. Now it's my Daughter in the kitchen "helping" me cook, bake and make candy.
My cooking triumphs
I would have to say that my greatest cooking triumph would have to be, correctly making a cream gravy. I really struggled with it. To thick, to thin, to lumpy, just couldn't get quite right.Thank God for my mom. I had so much trouble with it she finally came over one night and showed me exactly what I was doing wrong. It's not too much of our problem now days.
My cooking tragedies
The one that sticks out most in my mind is the first time I cook with cast iron. My husband and I had been married less than a year and at the time were staying with his mother. All she used was cast iron skillets, I had never used them before. Well I attempted to make pork chops that night, and let's just say they turned out less than perfect. Granted they were still edible, just a "little" dark in color, and a bit on the salty side. But my wonderful husband just kindly, commented that next time I should use a little less salt. Five years later and I still have not live it down, especially when I from time to time still get heavy handed the salt.
