About this Cook
my name is melissa and i have epilepsy. i live with my parents (again) so i have lots and lots of time to bake and cook them dinner etc.
My favorite things to cook
i prefer baking, however the family can't eat cookies and cakes every day so i'm working on being a better cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
baking christmas cookies with grandma
My cooking triumphs
i FINALLY baked the perfect batch of chocolate chip cookies, after years of failed, crispy batches. and i'll never tell my secret, sorry;)
My cooking tragedies
haha when i was six years old my grandmother and i were baking a cheesecake. she left me alone in the kitchen with the recipe and the ingredients to finish up some last minute christmas wrapping. she came back twenty minutes or so later to discover that i had not read the instructions, but instead just put all the ingredients into the mixing bowl--crust and filling all together. we baked it anyway and had some sort of weird cheesecake bar dessert that actually wasn't that bad! besides that though, there have been MANY tragedies. but i think you learn your most important lessons from your worst mistakes.

Pork Chops with Apples, Sweet Potatoes, and Sauerkraut
i personally thought this recipe was wonderful, but my family had mixed reviews. i used three sweet potatoes, three apples and one and a half onions and it still turned out okay. i think i could've used a little less sauerkraut (i used a large can) and maybe seasoned the chops with salt and pepper. i used white wine for the extra liquid and i think next time i make this i will use half wine half water to make the taste a little more mild. other than these minor changes this recipe is good if you're looking for something different.
